House Republican leaders went with Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY) – a.k.a. “The Prince of Pork” – to chair the House Appropriations Committee. As I wrote last week, the prospect of Rogers chairing Appropriations is about as inspiring as re-heated meatloaf when it comes to his potential for pushing serious spending reforms.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard its spots? Neither can you do good who are accustomed to doing evil.

The left-wing Think Progress blog recently used a FOIA request to obtain a letter Rogers sent to the Department of Health and Human Services requesting ObamaCare money for a community service center in his district.

That's not pork, that's bi-partisanship!

Don't get discouraged, stay engaged.

Boehner and the Republicans adopted the ban on earmarks and Rogers endorsed it. They'll need to be constantly reminded of that. Participatory government extends beyond election day.

Call Boehner’s office 24/7 until he understands the November 2nd election.

What district in Texas does he represent? How long has he been there? Are there any real candidates that can challenge him in this district during the next cycle?

On a seperate issue, is Jerry Lewis of California going to be on the appropriations committee?

Thanks in advance for your response.

He's from Kentucky, not Texas, district 5. He didn't have much of a Dem challenge, and no primary challenge. That's where we could start.
