VANITY: Best First Person Shooter or other "modern" combat Wii game
Self

Posted on 12/10/2010 9:56:54 AM PST by Liberty Tree Surgeon

I'm looking for a good, action (get us off the couch) combat game for the Wii. We've done the light saber duel thing, but I'd like something more along the lines of Call of Duty, just for the Wii type motion system.

Any FReeper recommendations?

I’m pretty sure that there IS a Call of Duty game for the Wii.

If, however, getting off the couch and shooting things is part of your objective then I highly recommend a Ruger 10-22 and some time at the range. It’s inexpensive. It’s fun (can be) for the whole family. It not only gets you off the couch but out of the front door and into the sunshine!

Definately! “Target Fun” for the Atari 2600. You can have one, or two players, and there’s both a GAME SELECT and RESET feature. Check it out! Really, it’s the last video game I ever thought was worth my time. Then I turned eight.

I got a Wii and Call of Duty whatever last Christmas.

I hate gaming on the Wii. I hate the controller. I'd rather play on a PC than a Wii.

Plenty of guns. There are lots of titles Call of Duty and Resident Evil to name two that can use them.

My son and I enjoy Call of Duty 3 for Wii.

I'm interested in other recommendations myself. I've thought about one of the WWII combat aircraft games.

My son likes a Nerf shooting game - I find it a bit hectic. Of course I spend most of my Call of Duty time crawling on my belly.

You can get a heck of a thumb workout with the classic Atari 2600 game 'Boxing'. (Nowadays this game would be considered racist.) ;-)

0311, Infantry Marine Corps. Lots of first person shooting and believe me, you'll play lots of "games" in the Corps...

There were so many different types of games.

What I remember is that I had a few game cartridges, and wanted more, but they were quite expensive. There was, however, a “bargain basement” sector for the games... Some of them were just so unpopular that Atari could hardly give them away.

So - I remember my mother agreeing to buy me one of the cheap games. I think it was called “reactor” or something, and it cost a few bucks.

The very, very strange premise of the game was that the player is a housefly stuck in a nuclear reactor which is melting down. You have to get out without touching the walls, and everything is flashing stroboscopically - truly enough to trigger an epileptic fit. Lots of other incomprehensible things happen, and I think at times everybody just dies for no reason.

In any case the game was just so unpleasant and bizarre that I lost interest in video games... I could not afford to “gamble and lose” on a bad game! (”Defender” was by far my favorite of the three or so games I had.)

It’s fun to remember those days.

As an owner of a Wii and an Xbox360 w/ Kinect, I have to say the Wii is now only a doorstop for my family (actually has been for a year or more really).

I don’t have this game, but from IGN (Video game and entertainment review website):

It seems the new “Goldeneye 007” game for Wii is just what you are looking for. READ THE REVIEW!

I got the Call of Duty Black Ops for the Wii. I had to buy the old-style (looks like the old Nintendo or current XBox controller) as the guy-style controller for the Wii is bass-ackwards (trigger is on the forward part of the stock). The game uses both the main controller and the nunchuck attachment. It apparently won't work with the long-gun-style controllers made for the hunting games.

It was actually much easier to control with one controller in each hand, as I could put the trigger in my right hand. It seemed very difficult to navigate and shoot/strafe.

Thanks for the link. I’m going to try getting my hands on the Wii sniper rifle to play Black Ops! That Links Crossbow thingy sucks.
