Fox News Just Ran A Banner That Said 'Happy Holidays'

Posted on 12/15/2010 3:49:19 AM PST by chopperman

Did they really think nobody would notice and start a thread on FR about it?

The “Happy Holidays vs Merry Christmas” argument seems like a staged conflict meant to take the attention off important things.

I don’t have any interest in it.

I guess that is what they mean by fair and balanced...they have run the Happy Hanukkah spots for the Jewish, the Merry Christmas for the Christians and the Happy holidays for those who wish to remain anonymous.

Fox News has also been saying “Merry Christmas” and quoting Scripture and just had a segment in which it was stated that “the Nativity is the center of Christmas”.

Step back, take a deep breath. Saying “Happy Holidays” isn’t a bad.

Not a big deal. I believe the term came about due to the trio of holidays.

Yes, I’ve heard the morning show say “Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays.”

No problem for me here in the Philippines.
It is MERRY CHRISTMAS for a month here, and no one would
understand “happy holidays”.
The season here is centered around the true meaning of Christmas, not a merchant’s or PC fest.

I just saw the Fox Christmas greeting quoting the Bible verse that proclaims that Jesus is the Son of God. Where else have you seen that on TV?

Christmas and New Year’s are a week apart. Is it possible that, by wishing us “Happy Holidays,” they are incorporating both holidays into one greeting?

Actually, Holiday is a contraction of "Holy Day".

What is the meaning of holy?

From http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/holy

Definition of HOLY

1 : exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness

2 : divine (for the Lord our God is holy — Psalms 99:9(Authorized Version)

3 : devoted entirely to the deity or the work of the deity (a holy temple, holy prophets)

The Biblical words translated "Holy", both Hebrew in the Old Testament and Greek in the New Testament, have the connotation of some thing, place or person set apart, consecrated, dedicated for the particular purpose of honoring God.

So, "Happy Holidays" means days that are set apart, consecrated and dedicated to the purpose of honoring God, who came to earth as the Christ child to save us from our sins. Because of this we are very happy, happy as in Joy to the World!

Merry Christ Mass or Happy Holy Days, either one works for me. And with an attitude totally out of sync with the season, I say to the ACLU and all the other Grinches who raise their ugly heads this time of year, "PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT!"

Agreed. It’s a non issue. A lot of people are out of town and won’t see each other from around christmas until after the new year. “Happy Holidays” covers everything.

They are running an ad that says “Merry Christmas”. I didn’t see the banner, but I did see the ad.

I agree with you. But at the time I just wasn’t up to posting all those words. But you are right. Thank you for bolstering my point.

THANK YOU - I wanted to say the same. A No Christmas policy is one thing, but that is not what this is. The poster of the thread and the others that will be bashing FOX just because of this banner may as well bash Bing Crosby as well. After all he sang the beautiful song, “Happy Holidays”

Anybody here fly USAirways? Did you get their Holiday Greeting email?

It was blue with white six-pointed stars.

Looks like they took an old Hanuka email and pasted Happy Holidays on it.

Hey Doug Parker - that email is pretty insulting to your frequent flyers!
