Then why are you surprised that you've never heard of this stuff? Most of it is clearly from before your time, whippersnapper.
And my time too. ;)

"I burned my finger more than once on the Thingmaker. " See...it was educational as well. You learned (like I did) not to burn yourself.
The other that really got me was the woodburning set. It was basically a soldering iron with a cork handle about 3 inches up. If you grabbed a pencil like I did at that age, it was always right at the bottom. I don't know how many times I grabbed that damn woodburner and just scorched my thumb and fingers.

BB gun. Yep. The Christmas present I remember the best and with the greatest affection.
I still have that gun and it still works.

Battling Tops was a great one as well. Do you remember “Whizzers”? They were tops (much larger than the battling tops) that you would gear up and let go. We used to have similar battles with them in the 2nd grade boys bathroom.
You’re not heading to Tampa are you? I’m on the fence. Have access to tickets and even a free room if I want it, but I’m just not feeling it.

I can’t make it either. I think Penn State will win easily.
But there’s a new sheriff in town, so next year, things are going to be different.

I just found out my parents still have mine!
The elevator ding is rather pathetic now, but it still works!

My favorite was an erector set with a motor. I also loved the electronics lab that I got for Christmas when I was 10.
I got one of my all time favorite gifts last year.

My Dad bought me an Erector set when I was about 7 - I spent countless hours making all sorts of weird and wonderful things with it. The only thing you added was imagination.
The sad thing is a toy like that would never pass the nanny state mentality we have now.

They should have two lists - one for toys and one for games.
How can you compare a yo-yo, which is a toy, to Risk, which is a game?
