DHS to check, control your home energy use as an item of National Security
WRKO radio | 12/20/10

Posted on 12/20/2010 12:30:33 PM PST by pabianice

Heard on car radio. Janet Napolitano has announced that since energy use is "a matter of national security," the DHS is setting in place a system to check on individuals' hone use of electricity, esp. ensuring that no light bulbs be incandescent in 2012. Good news for companies that sell remote-monitoring energy meters I guess. Obama is doubling-down again; intends to use executive authority to impose his rule.

That is a very thoughtful post, and I think you are exactly right. Now that there is pushback on the Obamacare plan based on the edge of the commerce clause, the national government is invoking national security to expand its powers into all sorts of areas that historically had nothing to do with that aspect of governmental authority.

I think we’ll see a lot more of that this year.

I haven’t heard anything but I’ve been informed that there is a rush on in Mississippi’s southern counties (Coast Electric Power Association) to install the remote accessible power meters. I would think that would be a precursor to exercising some control over individual power consumption. I know a person who works for Coast EPA at a fairly high level and, when I see him again, will see what I can learn.

Sarcasm, satire and irony are well, oh so Twentieth Century.

You cannot satirise our upcoming dystopic reality.

As many Health and Green and other Control Freaks have claimed, both liberal and even conservative, rights and liberty are simply obstacles when they impede the public good and welfare.

RIP. We blew it, Ben.

Going to have a difficult time “controlling” home energy use when the stated PLAN is to have citizens using even MORE home energy, charging cars whenever they are not in use.

We had that some rush in suburban Chicago some months ago. They were polite but very firm.

I’m going to stock up on light bulbs that last for 25,000 hours. If you use them for about seven hours a day on average they’ll last a little less than ten years.

You can get them here from this company that sells supplies primarily to the hospitality industry.

Oh, come ON, Laz, you can’t be against this when yesterday you were for the CALM act, a Federal Govt effort to reduce TV advertising volume.

If you agreed with that, you should be gungho for this entirely sensible and reasonable measure.

I'm for regulating by federal mandate, the shape, weight, and color of your poop.

But only YOUR poop.

So is she going to come into our homes to see what lightbulbs we are using?

Is she going to buy the expensive ones if we can’t afford them? Is she going to pay for the cleanup if one of those nasty bulbs breaks?

Our city councilman here in San Antonio is having a town hall meeting to talk about the neat-o new digital thermostat I can get for free that establishes “two-way communication” between City Public Service and my home system.

I’m going: not only no, but HELL, no!

And of course, a reasoned, intelligent answer delightfully enhanced by your reference to poop.

Well, Laz, you shit, eat shit.

Collect enough bulbs to last through 2016, just in case the commie gets re-elected!

It is all about getting rid of sub contract labor to read the meters. Too many just estimate the reading and never get out of their car... too many bills have to be corrected... it will save them major bucks.

Here in Texas we received information on this (pamphlet with our power bill). It also said that they would control the power during peak times.

I say *NO* and I will resist, things are going too far.

Glenn Beck mentioned something about this and when DHS was questioned about it they said that it would help track illegal electricity usage - when asked for clarity they said “you know, like if someone came to your home and plugged in a vacuum cleaner without your consent.”

No joke.
