True Grit - Great Movie for the Season
Vanity | Dec 23rd, 2010 | Self

I know, many of you can't bear the idea of somebody, anybody, taking on a role once played by John Wayne. I too was skeptical as I am a devoted Duke fan.

However, I'm also a great fan of Jeff Bridges and the Coen Brothers.

And, I can tell you this: The Dude does The Duke proud.

This is certainly the best Western since Unforgiven and probably in the top 10 ever. Yes, it's far better than the original in every respect.

Acting, dialogue, mood and photography come together to be the best movie the Coen Brothers have made.

It's not a story about vengeance. It's a story about justice. And what a story it is. The final scene before the Coda, when Rooster and Mattie are riding through the night is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes you will see in a movie. Ever.

Both are deserving of Academy Awards, as are the Coen Brothers in multiple categories.

Go see this movie in a theater...soon...

LOL. Well, if you have to do it, I guess that’s it. Three of the last four movies I’ve gone to in the theater either had teenie boppers chatting and playing with their phones (the Oliver Stone 9/11 movie); or kids running all over the place (to which my son popped, jumped up and shouted, “SHUT THE F___ UP!” and they did!); and one in which during the previews, somebody absolutely got riddled by a machine gun and a black guy behind us shouts, “THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ABOUT!” (that actually was pretty funny).

She was first the wife of a hardware salesman and she took his boy with her.

But, the boy never did like him much anyway so I guess it's best.

Lloyd Bridges’ politics were goofy, but didn’t stay specifically Red. From his Wikipedia bio (not the most unimpeachable source, granted, but I think accurate here):

“He was blacklisted briefly in the 1950s after he admitted to the House Un-American Activities Committee that he had once been a member of the Actors’ Lab, a group with links to the Communist Party. He resumed working after being cleared by the FBI...”

In those days, being cleared by HUAC and the FBI generally meant that you named names, etc., and proved to their satisfaction that you weren’t an active Party member.

“Good God girl, that's a Colt Stragoon”.

Correction:

"...that's a Colt's Dragoon."

Got a man crush on Daniel Craig as 007

He does make a great Bond. I'll pass on the "man crush" though, even though you would like to "bond" with him.

Have not seen it. I saw the previews, and I was appalled that someone was remaking the movie. Might give it a try....maybe

From the trailers I have seen of the new remake I am happy to see what the original movie would have been like without Glenn Campbell(Texas Rangers don't sound top tenor) and Kim Darby(Is this how Shirley Temple would have done it?).

I've been thinking about seeing this movie. Does it contain;

1) Nudity or explicit stuff of a related nature.

2) Violations of the Second Commandment or the F word.

3) Really graphic violence (Doesn't really bother me, just a stat point).

4) Any liberal or PC material or messages.

Thankee kindly :)

Even if it doesn't, I might still see it.
