Gobierno USA

Got a new PC for Christmas (yay!).

While fishing around, setting up, etc., wandered into the preset Internet favorites bar. Among all the ads for HP, MSN & Microsoft were two for "US Government" as a preset folder. Odd enough in itself, but so be it.

The two choices were USA.Gov and GobiernoUSA.gov - OK, I'm not happy with the dual branding of everything in America with two languages, but so be it.

The icing on the cake was the main page of GobiernoUSA.gov.

The top Links were as follows:

1.Inmigración y ciudadanía 2.Seguro Social 3.Tarjeta verde 4.Beneficios y ayuda 5.Visas

In other words, the main message to Spanish speakers was not about Constitution, Separation of Powers, our great history, etc.

It was about how to get free help.

The English language version was not much better. The hot topics were:

1.Government Jobs 2.Benefits 3.Government Auctions 4.Vital Documents 5.A-Z List of Agencies

Just struck me as where we are as a country, that this is how people see the government.

I am sick to death of spanish. I can't stand the language or most of the people that speak it.

Of course they are going to direct them to the "benefits" at our expense.

So be it? Why? What has Mexico ever had to do with the world, other than as an example of failure and social disaster?

There are no citizens of that hideous country shrugging their shoulders about the loss of their national culture - because it isn't happening to them and wont: they are hyper nationalist. They would consider it weakness.

And so should we. The federal government of the United States has no business trying to change us into Mexico.

Official English NOW.

Sorry, didn’t mean by “so be it” that I was ok with it, I was just trying to convey “let’s accept that for argument’s sake”, so I could get to my real beef.

I agree 100 percent English should be the sole language - for a bunch of reasons:

1) More economic efficiency (similar to single currency)
2) Bilingual education proven to be a failure academically.
3) English is a more complex, flexible language - allows for neologisms, wider poetic choices, etc.
4)Dual language sets up separatist mindset (we are how we think)
5) As evidenced above, it’s the soft racism of lowered expectations.

And so on.....

I’ve never been forced to speak or understand spanish. However, people that speak more than one language are for the most part more educated and understand their own language better. I grew up learning spanish, french, and latin. Your post is silly. Tell us why you really dislike mexicans..

Who cares what languages you learned? That was your choice.

I speak some of all three of those languages you mentioned (I'm in France at the moment) plus German and Russian. And a little Czech.

Doesn't mean a damn thing. The Constitution of the United States was a compact between people who spoke English, and they did it consciously in that language, because it was the language of their nationality. PERIOD.

The Mexicans are trying to impose their nationality on us. In their culture, it's proof of their strength and our weakness. Only weaklings would let a strongman force his way on someone, and so their culture compels them to try.

They have found success because of the America hating weakling Liberals who have dominated social discourse since the 60's.

And you're one of them, bub. "tell us why you dislike mexicans" -- pulling the race card. You're trying to tag the guy: see, it's not Spanish he dislikes, but brown people.

So what if it's true. The larger point remains: the United States is not up for grabs. English is the language of our ancestors (mine, anyway...maybe not yours) and we intend to not be ruled by foreigners who speak the language of a populace we have fought for 5 centuries.

If that's unsettling to you, well....tuff. Freedom means not being ruled by people you don't want to rule you. And that does mean foreigners (like the Kenyan guy currently occupying our White House fraudulently). And people who speak Spanish, whose history is the despicable history of Mexico, definitely qualify for that label: foreigners who we don't want to have as rulers.

PS: Spain is a white European country. Not wanting to speak the Spanish language, be ruled by Spanish norms, or live under the rule of that culture and people is not "racism", but nationalism on our part.

And it's perfectly legitimate. It represents our nationhood.

So pound sand, America hater.

"tell us why you don't like Mexicans"

Tell us why you seem unable or unwilling to refute my points with reasoned debate

FWIW, I'm all for anybody willing to work for a living. What I really don't like is government pandering to make people dependent on government.
