Bowl season snooze fest must end

After a college footballweekend that was essentially nothing more than a media pile-on against the NCAA for its head-scratching treatment of five Ohio State players who violated the rules, I've got a bone to pick with the association, too.

The 2010-2011 bowl season has been downright awful.

During this 6 week drought of meaningless crap like Oklahoma playing Conn and Boise state playing Utah again. And Texas Tech playing in the Cotton Bowl but two other no names playing the "cotton bowl" in Texas stadium and the Bowls renamed to things like "Go Daddy" and Muffler bowl, enough is enough!! We want a playoff like every other sport. Even the damned pro football leagues do a play off. 60 damned teams could play off in 6 weeks!!! Then we would have a REAL national champion and not something some damned drunk sports writer tells us in "number one".

PLAYOFFS - 8 teams, could do it in a span of 3 weeks (like March Madness). Others not included in the BCS playoffs could play in the lackluster Liberty or Meineke Bowls.

A playoff system would be great.

Wisconsin/Stanford in the Rose Bowl would have been a winning combo, and a tribute to the Rose Bowl tradition, but the BCS knew better.

It's similar to the NHL. Something like 80 percent of the Pro Hockey Teams go to the playoffs? What's the point of having a regular season? Same thing with Basketball. That's not the way it used to be, before it became all about the money.

I may be in the minority, but I say no to the BCS and no to playoffs. Bring back the tradition and pageantry that the major bowls had before the BCS.

Let's also say "no" to lengthening the season, the way the pros have done--with World Series games being played after Halloween and the Super Bowl now taking place after Groundhog Day. Wind up college football on New Years Day.
