I didn’t think I was lecturing you, I though I was responding to your observation about the treatment Duncan Hunter got here on FR.
The veracity of what I wrote perhaps bothered you?
1) I’ve written major interactive systems in Perl, the language in which Free Republic is written. I am quite qualified to judge technology for technology’s sake.
2) I got into this thread by posting that I would be willing to jump in and help pro-bono. I donate to FR. I have already put my money where my mouth is.
3) I also said earlier that I was leaving the thread because I have been in them before and challenging someone’s fidelity to conservatism and fealty to JimRob based on seniority or overlooking technological concerns is flat out stupid and a waste of time.
4) I am pinging Jim to this particular post because I just want to be on the record as to my feelings on these issues, I’ve mentioned his name and that is protocol, and to restate my dedication to FR. But he already knows this, I think. He will respond or not as he sees fit.
5) I’m outta the pointless accusation portion of this thread. If we want to discuss constructive criticisms and the way to improve our stay here in Jim’s living room I’ll be back in a couple hours. I’ve gotta go for now. (Just like Duncan Hunter.)

I've enjoyed your posts in the past, but you shouldn't go around telling longtime, established FReepers what and what not to do. Bad form.

Ah, I missed that. I think I was traveling the day of the re-scheduled Duncan Hunter visit. You do know that his initial visit was canceled and re-scheduled because the site was having major system problems of the sort being discussed in this thread, right? I thought the embarrassment mentioned was about that, not about what people did during his re-scheduled appearance. That’s not good at all. Actually, neither is good.
My point is he is refusing to go commercial (I have asked him online about that)
HE said he does not want to “sell out” (his words)
I try to tell him he does not HAVE TO sell out, to commericalize and profit from this site
And I dont think any one here would object- in fact I would be happy to see him make a successful business out of it.
I think we shoudl all INSIST that he go commercial so that we can have more confidence that this site has the funding to protect itself from attacks

You are presuming that if someone wants to invest or advertise they will demand control.
That is just not 100% true- Some will, some wont.
If it is JimRobs business he still runs it the way HE wants to.
If someone wants control JUST SAY NO
I am sure there are advertisiers that would pay to get the million eyeballs from this site JUST THE WAY IT IS

As was said in some other posts, money won't solve the problem if you can't diagnose what it is. Read Jim's post again. They don't know for certain what is going on.

I noticed since we went to a new computer gamers style with Win 7 that FR is the slowest loading site I go to. Even FB loads faster...we are AT&T Memphis (high speed internet), and still get a lot of timing out issues while accessing FR.
Yes we run malware & virus all the time. Our IT professional daughter set that up when we got the new computer. The slow loading didn’t happen with the old machine with XP (which was on it’s last legs). I just figured it was a Win 7 issue.
