Blizzard Warning

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA 420 PM EST TUE JAN 11 2011

Winter storm conditions will affect most of southern New England into southern New Hampshire tonight and Wednesday Blizzard Warning in effect from 2am to 8pm Wednesday

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a Blizzard Warning. Accumulations 12 to 16 inches of snow.

My kids are already celebrating their snow day.

Can’t wait for the “live-shot” of people buying shovels at the local Home Depot tonight on the local news.

Doesn’t everybody who lives in New England own a shovel? Or do they toss them after each storm.

My grandkids may not be going back to school until next Tuesday. Snow day tomorrow and no doubt on Thursday and then they’re off Friday and Monday for MLK Day. The teachers have it tough.

The missed days will be *made up* in June or taken from other time. Law specifies a certain number of days each child must have in school. Individual towns/districts can vary and often do extend the number of days for staff & children set by the State.

At one time I lived in Watertown, and I don't recall 2 inches of snow shutting anything down.

Having lived in Back Bay for 4 years. Trust me.... NO ONE is prepared. I think it is a requirement in Boston that you drive with bald tires.

I'm sure my kids will be back to school for Thursday. Out in the far-western 'burbs and here in NH snow removal is pretty efficient.

They'll still have a four day weekend as MLK holiday is followed by a school "professional day" on Tuesday.

What exactly a "professional day" entails at a small, private K-8 school, I haven't a clue. But I like to think in involves something mildly kinky. Like in that Kubrick film.
