S.C. Company Sells Engraved “You Lie” Component For AR-15 Rifle

A South Carolina gun and accessories company is selling semi-automatic rifle components inscribed with “You lie” – a tribute to the infamous words of 2nd District Republican Congressman Joe Wilson when he shouted at President Barack Obama during a congressional speech about national health care reform in the fall of 2009.

“Palmetto State Armory would like to honor our esteemed congressman Joe Wilson with the release of our new ‘You Lie’ AR-15 lower receiver,” reads a portion of the company’s website.

The product “is neither endorsed nor affiliated with Joe Wilson or his campaign,” according to a line of text at the bottom of the page. A picture of Wilson holding a rifle and standing in the company's gun shop appears on the same page. The company offers the components, marked “MULTI to accommodate most builds,” for $99.95 apiece.

...

Wilson spokesman Neal Patel says the photo of Wilson was taken when the congressman stopped by Palmetto State Armory in August 2010 to thank them for creating jobs and that it was a congressional visit. He said he'd have to check back and see if the component was made before or after the photo was taken.

That’s our local gunshop, Palmetto Armory. They have a facebook page and an internet site. They’ve had the internet store for some time now and we were happy to have them open a storefront last year. Great folks, great place to shop.

With today's crazy leftists and all the smears surrounding the Arizona shooting, I can see this being misconstrued as a threat against Obama. Paul Krugman will be right on it.

Sorry, but I can see how this would be incendiary since the phrase is very closely tied to a particular incident involving the President of the United States. How would folks on FR feel about bullets being sold with a ‘W’ engraved on them?

That’s kind of a bad phrase to use. I’d rather see Let’s Roll...

I’d rather have the M-203 attachment.

But that’s just me!

At the very, very most I'd find it in bad taste. It would never occur to me that I should have the legal ability to prevent them from doing so.

I see it as a tip of the hat, so to speak, to honesty and freedom. I think it’s quite appropriate.

I have them as a “like” on facebook so I saw it as soon as they announced it,last week or the week before. They are only making a few per some kind of atf regulation, something like the first 99, could be more, can’t remember right now. Pretty cool, eh?

The company offers the components, marked “MULTI to accommodate most builds...

So it's illegal to put, for example, a .50 Beowulf upper on a lower marked 5.56mm/.223? I've seen lowers marked "MULTI" but never heard of a prohibition on mix and match.

Congressman happy rifle part engraved with "You Lie" no longer being sold

"I have been made aware of a AR-15 lower receiver being sold by Palmetto State Armory," Wilson wrote to Jamin McCallum.

"I thank you for quickly suspending sales of the product that uses my words."

Wilson signed the letter, which is dated Wednesday. Neal Patel, the congressman's Communications Director, forwarded it to CNN.

Patel told CNN that the gun and parts seller informed Wilson's office that it had pulled the product. "The Congressman was pleased with this news," Patel said in an email.
