Looking to upgrade from a basic life membership to Patron or Benefactor. Is there any benefit to the new level?
REID LOSES NRA ENDORSEMENT BUT KEEPS GROUP'S CAMPAIGN CASH: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) may not have an official endorsement from the National Rifle Association this year, but he does have its money. Reid has already received $4,950 from the group’s political action committee for his 2010 campaign. Though the group says they will not officially endorse Reid this year due to his votes in support of the Supreme Court confirmations of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, Reid remains part of the minority of Democrats receiving money from the NRA. So far this election cycle, the NRA has given $177,500 to Democratic congressional candidates, compared to $406,850 to Republican candidates. Reid also collected $4,500 from the NRA six years ago (when the group likewise declined to endorse him).
Statement of Reid campaign manager Brandon Hall on NRA endorsement in Nevada US Senate race:
“The NRA’s relationship with Sen. Reid has been long-standing and productive and – unlike for Sharron Angle – they’ve put their money where their mouth is this cycle. Along with their financial support, the declaration of NRA head Wayne LaPierre that Sen. Reid is ‘a true champion of the Second Amendment’ and that ‘no one has been a stronger advocate for responsible gun ownership than him’ shows beyond a doubt that the NRA believes Sen. Reid to be a strong advocate for Nevadans’ Second Amendment rights in the US Senate.”
I am a proud annual-fee NRA member as well as a supporter of the harder-line JPFO and GOA.
But -
Why does the level of “benefit to you” determine how much you give?
Unlike some of the dolts on this thread, you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’re (further) supporting the most effective civil rights, training and shooting sports organization around. Note that I didn’t say the “perfect organization run by unpaid angels that you’ll agree with 100% of the time”.
they asked me if i wanted to upgrade for $200. If there’s no benefit, then I will hold off as I can always think of better uses for the money.
The NRA has supported every single solitary piece of anti-gun legislation for the past 100 years. Why give such a creature a dime?
In that time I have also written and emailed numerous opinions to my elected reps on the gun issue.
I have the pleasure of knowing that I have personally done more for the pro-firearms movement , along with my contributions to NRA ,than most of the anti-NRA ignoramuses who post on these threads have if they were all put together.
--I also understand that, if in two years the political situation changes to a Republican wipeout , which I think is a distinct possibility, that the only gun organization which will have any clout with Congress whatsoever will be the NRA---

I heard through the grapevine that the NRA is offering $300 life memberships through the 15th of this month, but you must be sponsored by a current Life Member. I understand they recently mailed something out to the Life Members to that effect. Care to sponsor me?

Thanks - I say don’t do it. The NRA has an important role, but they have been soft-core on many important issues. For $25.00 a year or so you can become a member of JPFO and GOA, two smaller, less “star-studded” organizations which are nonetheless doing some excellent work. Might I also recommend looking into the MRC, which has long been a supporter of Dr John Lott and his work. Lott really is a centerpiece of what is going on in the movement. If his work prevails, Americans win. If it is silenced, we step back.

NRA wants permitted, revokeable concealed carry. They want this because they want their trainers to have a monopoly on training classes.
Because they want this (above), it is why they will not fight for people who live in open carry states and have the law harassing them for open carry, they are not for ‘constitutional carry’, meaning no permit to carry either open or concealed, depending on what makes more sense for you to do at any given time and place.
You’ll get free tickets to events at the Annual Meetings. Other than that, I haven’t seen any additional benefits...
Join if you want,,, but never give that bunch more than a year or two. Keep em always begging,,,, they supported far too many socialists last election.

Why do you not want your name on a list? Because you fear your government? All the more reason for an American patriot to put his name on that list. Remember that when our founders risked their Lives, their Fortunes, and their Sacred Honor they really were risking their lives and their considerable fortunes. Public humiliation may be one thing, but Honor, as you well know, belongs to the brave.

IIRC, the NRA got all googlie-eyed at Harry Reid when he opened a shooting range in Nevada last year. They even went so far as endorsing him for re-election. That may be what was being referred to earlier in this thread.
When they proved that they would back Dingy Harry Reid and other RATS, I dropped my regular membership, even though I had an active NRA-Certified Range Officer rating.
Tempted to call BS on this. I have been a Life Member for over 25 years, and never had anything like getting magazines stopped if I did not send money or other. Infrequent requests for money, sure, bet never a cessation of service. Am. Rifleman shows up every month, just like clockwork..............
