The governor needs to say (and mean) that every state worker will report to work on Monday.

The problem is that this is not technically a strike. In the eyes of the law, especially now with doctors handing out sick notes, it is just a bunch of workers who are making use of accumulated sick leave. There's probably nothing the governor can do force these slackers back to work, which is why he needs to strip them of their collective bargaining rights first.

As other posters have pointed out, the Democrats are only needed to deal with fiscal matters. The remaining GOP legislators in Wisconsin should perhaps use this free time to pass other bills that would benefit the residents of this state. Perhaps the first one would be that any government worker hired in the future would only be allowed to accumulate personal time off, instead of being allowed sick days.

I know the situation is not identical, and these people are not on strike, but they are clearly absent without leave, so to speak, and the doctor's notes are worthless, because I'm quite sure they have all been caught on camera, whereas if they where sick they should be home in bed. So, not only are they absent without leave, but they're producing phony documents as well. Fire them. If they sue, then so be it. In the mean time, Wisconsin will be rid of them. I only hope that the governor does have some strategy for dealing with prolonged disruptions. If he's seen as being weak or clueless in the face of this crisis then all is lost, and I don't have to tell anyone the consequences of a loss here.
