Very cool! Time to dust off my copy of The Hobbit and read it again!
I read The Hobbit years before I read the Rings. I wonder how different it is reading it after you know the back story. Makes it better? Diminishes it?
I have read the Hobbit since reading The Lord of the Rings and find that I still enjoy it very much.
If you do not have a copy of The Annotated Hobbit, I recommend you pick one up; it adds even more background and details.

If you mean the Lord of the Rings movies, I certainly hope so.
I simply can't watch them. The screenwriters pooped in the story excessively. Several characters aren't remotely like the books, key scenes are left out, characters say things that are totally invented, ARRRRGGGGHH.
And after Ian McKellan just HAD to tell us all about his faggotry, every time I saw him all I could think of was how much he'd like buggering hobbits.
The movies are deeply disappointing if you know the books. Hopefully the Hobbit won't be, and they'll hire a screenwriter faithful to Tolkien's storyline.
That is my hope as well.

I totally agree with this statement. Most of the changes I was just like why? The explanations given in the appendix of the extended version were inane. The reason Tolkien is so loved is because he understood his audience so well and knew their capacity to understand complex issues like temptation, nobility of character, etc... The screenwriters were idiots to think they could get away with screwing with the story line and characters of the most published work next to the bible.
