Well Dolly, if most FReepers watched as many movies in 2010 as I did, there would not be much activity on either thread. I watched zero movies in the past 15 or 20 years.

Academy Awards are an event where the self-important get together, telling the world how important they all are. Four hours of mutual mental masturbation. Yuck!
But, some of the girls are nice to look at.

The OSCARS are primarily a Cotillion, a coming out party, a Welcome to the Big Time suaree all in one, broadcast to all for their own glorification.

Yes you have. Seriously you forgot the sarc tag. Actually, I have only the vaguest recollection that Hathaway is an actress, or otherwise is some sort of 'celebrity.' The Franco guy I wouldn't know if he walked in my front door.
I almost never watch network TV. If it ain't on the weather channel, Fox News, the History Channel, the Military Channel or CNBC, I don't see it.
Ditto for movies. The last time I went to a theater was to see Casino Royale in 2006.
Almost all significant information I get anymore comes from the internet.

We went to one movie in 2010 too....Toy Story 3.
I doubt Woody and company will show up at the Oscars.
I too, could’nt care less. We’ve been enjoying a “Lord of the Rings” triology fest this weekend.

My favorite movie is The Best Years of Our Lives which, I think, won an Oscar or two.An oldie but a goodie!

If memory serves Hathaway is there on the right and Franco is on the left..

I haven’t watched those in decades.
When too many of the speakers were allowed to spew hate and vile filth, they became unwatchable.

Star Wars was robbed of the Best Picture award. As a kid, I was devastated, and have hated awards shows ever since. I didn’t even attend my own college graduation.

2010's Box Office Bonanza? The devil is in the details.
But in the US, the number of people attending movies is on the decline.
Hooray for Hollyweird!

Just another self-congraulatory elitist “aren’t we just fabulous” waste of time.
Seems like they happen every other week throughout the year.

I look at it this way: We’re capitalists. The Oscars are a three hour ad. I have no prob with ads. But the ad stinks and the product’s cr@p. Which makes it a very tough sell.
