Skip to comments.Tonight On American Idol:Were Wild Card Picks Based Soley On Race? Some Of The Best Weren't Chosen.
Posted on 03/03/2011 7:38:04 PM PST by JohnThune2012
For those of you who watched IDOL this evening, were you shocked on who the final ten were?,and then even more shocked on who were picked for the three wild card spots? It was bad enough that two of the best female singers didn't make the top then, and then to add insult to injury,Randy,Jenifer&Steve chose the two black female singers of whom were the least impressive of the six wild card contestants. It was so obvious that the judges were more concerned that they would of been declared racists if they didn't have at least one black female singer amongst the final 12. This will likely come back to haunt them. Let's just wait and see who gets eliminated first.
I don’t have a television and don’t see American Idol, but you must not have received the memo from Eric Holder-up: America is a Chocolate Country of “My People.” Any other outcome is unacceptable.
I missed most of the show tonight.
I did see most of the audition shows.
I am surprised that I do like the additions of Steven Tyler and even what’s her name,,,,Jennifer Lopez. I am sure not a fan of hers musically although a couple movies with her in it were not horrible. I couldn’t even name 2 of her “hit songs”. I like Tyler more now that I’ve seen him. I always loved old Aerosmith songs. Not so much the newer stuff. He’s funny, and entertaining on the show.
I really thought getting rid of Simon would kill the show but, I like it fine without him. I liked his honesty.
Anywho, will watch the show next week and see if I find anyone who stands out as a winner.
PS- if there is such a thing as a FR American Idol ping list and you own it, please add me.
I was just totally disgusted. this season we had more than enough great singers. especially with the girls. why didn’t they just pick the best 12 singers, not 6 and 6..just the best 12. you could of easily had 8 girls and 4 dudes. One of the guys chosen for the top ten just didn’t belong there. Something Smells !!!
I thought they ended up with a pretty good demographic mix that represents the American population.
The wild cards picks won’t go far, though, as they were mostly chosen in a sympathy move by the judges, which reflected their own ethnic preferences. One Hispanic; one black; and one multi-ethnic.
Your kidding right? FReepers do not waste their time on this liberal crap.
you know, you could of had another josh groban and charlotte church in the mix,up against two average black&hispanic girls.and lets say they already picked 12 white singers, and needed to add two wild card picks(like tonight),,what do u think the judges would have done?

Sort of like affirmative action and not talent?
maybe they chose the two black girls at the end because Obama and his Husband Michelle were watching?
They are all talented and gutsy. Real Americans pursuing their American Dream.
I don’t get this thread. ???
Don’t sugar coat it kid, give it to us straight up.
I predicted the wild card picks. My wife poo pooed me - until it happened. Goodbye American Idol.
One Josh Groban is enough, and one Charlotte Church is more than enough.
I think you have another pingee. lol
My mother moved in with us on Sunday after my dad passed away in December. It’s rare I’m on FR these days, really rare. :( I miss you guys on the AI thread. Just came across this poster and thought I’d ping you.
I have AI on my DVR since 2/10, I’ll NEVER catch up!
Could you please add me to your American Idol ping list?
Granted they have a strong crop this year, but I was shocked.
for those of you who watched, can we assume that Casey will be in the final two? and that 15 year old Asian Girl THIA is already putting the other 6 or 7 girls to shame!(not that the other 6 or 7 can’t sing, but Thia just blows them away!!!)
Who cares? Do you buy “people” magazine too? I’m saddened to know we have FReepers that watch that crap.
For a good viewing experience, I highly recommend Glorious Basterds.
I’m still watching..Stefano didn’t get in? He was incredible. Oh well. Just postponing the inevitable. THe winners were already in the top 10. There are some great singers there. Win or lose. Incredible talent this year.
Freepers watch tripe like this?
BTW, I don’t even -have- a television in my part of the house....
The top 10 are voted by the viewers. Nobody ever said the best singers voted in by viewers. The black girl with the colorful outfit was AMAZING in her second chance audition. They are all good. Just like politics..it’s not the best person, it’s the best performer.
you know, the first 5 or 6 choices for the top ten were fair choices, then when they sent two of the better girls home, you knew something was up. now the show will suck because now we have maybe 7or 8 great singers, and the other half closer to Wedding Singer Status. Just once, why can’t we have an American Idol series with 12 Fantastic Singers?
We miss you too :-| Prayers for all you’re dealing with. I know it must be difficult.
Terrible isn't it. No real conservative would ever watch any thing like that.
I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. Try and come to the AI thread - it’s interesting this year since Simon is gone. We’re still having fun, though. Prayers going up to you and your mom.
I like her but my fav is Pia.
That's a Bingo!
I thought Kendra was the best of the female wild card contestants. The girl in the colorful dress, Naima (sp?) also did well in her wild card performance. But I think you’re right about the other black wild card girl. I believe she was probably chosen over Kendra because she’s black.
Actually, I’m more annoyed by the Hispanic girl who sang in Spanish and keeps crowing and gloating about “Latino” this and “Latino” that, “I’m going to be the first Latina Idol,” etc. Her mom was shown in the audience holding a Mexican flag. The fine print on the credits says that American Idol reserves the right to pick the winner if the vote is close. I have a hunch the vote was close between the Latina girl and someone else, and the producers chose her for her race. Must be PC, you know, and get every race represented! It’s really getting silly, all this bean counting, but everybody knows it’s happening.
Overall, I'm a happy camper.
*snicker* Must be an appropriate Charlie Sheen joke in there somewhere. Tap, tap, tap, if only I had more tigerblood I could come up with one!
Stefano didnt get in?
A shame. He was a good singer.
Ya know what? They were all very good singers. They were going for people who have a bit of personality and those two gals did have style. By the way, Stefano did get in!
Great news. I had not seen the show yet as we will watch it tonight (Italy plays the show the following day). I look forward to seeing how it plays out. I of course went to American Idol.com and know basically what happened. lol.
How long have you been in Italy? How come I didn’t know that. I’ve seen you here for years. What are you doing there?
Your first mistake. There are hundreds of great books you haven't read. Why?
I am doing well. I am at the Naval Air Station in Sigonella. However, I will finish in April and retire from the Navy after 24 years. Can hardly believe I have been in that long. lol. I have my retirement ceremony 8 April which is keeping me busy with getting everything done. I think that the reception will be a good time. It is always a pleasure to see you here. I am looking forward to getting back to the states after being in Korea and Sicily for six years. Take care and have a great weekend!!!!
I think the right people were selected as finalists. I might have traded Stefano for Jovany, but even that would have been a close call. I don’t think any of the wildcard picks have a realistic shot at winning.
I do NOT like the girl that keeps singing in Spanish that got picked. This is American Idol, not Spanish Idol. I don’t like Naima whatever her face is; she’s a muslim and I don’t like the idea of promoting that to anyone, particularly young people.
Kendra and/or Lauren should have been picked on the girls side. I like all the guys; Casey is fantastic.
Guess thats another reason I don't watch it.
That was my first thought.
I can't think of anything either--and I have Adonis DNA! :)
in my opinion, only one of the female singers who did not make it to the final 12 actually deserves to be there... of the female wild card picks, i think the judges chose the best ones... especially Ashton... i am glad she is a final contestant... i do think that they should have gone with all three girls from the wild card round and ditched the one guy they chose from the wild card... my faves made it... Thia (she’s a Central Valley CA gal—lives 5 miles from where i live)... Lauren Alaina and Ashton Jones... of the guys i like Casey Abrams and Paul McDonald... Jacob Lusk is really good, but he cries too much for my taste...
Kendra bored me... but i do think she should have been chosen over the guy...
i watched Idol last night... and i am currently studying The Summa Theologica... in Latin... and reading The Odyssey with my sons--who are studying Greek and Latin...
