Phil Collins Retires For Good From Music, Cites Injuries and Hearing Loss

PHIL Collins has quit music for good after developing hearing problems, a dislocated vertebra and nerve damage in his hands from his 40-year career playing drums.

The Easy Lover hitmaker also thinks people are sick of him and his music.

“It’s a good time to stop,” said the star, who has sold more than 150 million records.

“I look at the MTV Music Awards and I think: ‘I can’t be in the same business as this’.

“I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely.

“I’m not worried about not being able to play the drums again, I’m more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids.”

Collins — who is in a relationship with newsreader Dana Tyler and has been married three times, to Andrea Bertorelli, Jill Taverman and Orianne Cevey — recently insisted he has no plans to ever tie the knot again.

“She’s a very sweet girl, sweet lady but I’m not going to get married again,” he said. “I think I’m better off on my own.”

How do you retire from music? Heck, I even want some playing in the casket.

I saw him twice, one with Genesis, once solo.

What a great performer. Thanks, Phil.

Phil also guest starred in an episode of Miami Vice, (second season I think it was named ‘Phil the shill’ or something close to that). His roll was as a combination drug dealer and con man. His acting was not to bad at all either.

WHAT???

Stratocasters and Telecasters and .357’s... lol

Not funny really... it kinda sucks ( hearing loss/ tinitus ) oops, tinnitus... crap I can’t hear nor spell...

OK, all that being said, Mr. Collins is the ultimate percussionist, Nikko McBrain being second...

I thouroughly enjoyed the Genisis of the Post Gabriel years...

This is coming from a metal-headed, country pickin’ blues dude...

Rock on Phil, but, you’ll be back... You’ll never get out of this world alive...

...

The Seconds Out version of "Supper's Ready" is, IMHO, the greatest piece of rock music ever recorded. Collins took that amazing song to place Gabriel never could.

He's also one of the finest drummers I've ever seen. I'm glad I had the opportunity to see him perform live twice with Genesis.

Black Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4, (even the fake one), is the reason for that song. That was the coolest thing back then.

When they blew up the car, I almost cried. Found out many years later that they blew up the stunt car, not the one that was in most of series.

After they started to use the Testarossa to make Ferrari happy, the show was never the same.

I cant think of Genesis without Peter Gabriel

A friend of mine saw Phil Collins in a hotel one day before a show and asked him whatever happened to Peter and he said “’E just got up and left one day, ‘e did”

No way. Phil has said for years when he says that’s it...that’s it. He did the Genesis tour for closure and out of guilt that Tony and Mike did not tour for so long and it was to make them fiscally right for the rest of their lives. He is right...he is 60 years old and has 2 kids and wants to enjoy the remainder of his life...and millions.

Can you blame the guy? He is physically falling apart.

Still a few legends left on the circuit...Rush being one of them and they are touring starting at the end of this month.

Rolling Stone did a recent article on Collins and apparently he's a life-long Alamo-phile and has used his fortune to amass one of the largest private collections of Alamo memorabilia. He even shows up a historical societies and gives lectures on the Alamo and the Texas Revolution.

Here's one article from MSNBC:

Remembering the Alamo With Phil Collins

The Miami Vice pilot was just on cable the other day. Coolest scene ever on television.

I still thoroughly enjoy Phil’s music. Only saw him once, during his first solo tour, circa 1981, at the Tower Theater near Philly. ‘Wind and Wuthering’ (Genesis) is still one of my all-time favorite albums. Hope he has a happy retirement. Phil has certainly left a hefty musical legacy.
