I really can’t believe the part about giving cash back.
I am going to try it with the 3.00 Gain and Purex coupons.
I don’t expect it to be easy at first.
The whoosh Walgreens just heard was Walmart stealing their business.
This has hit the internet world and got the couponers excited.
This is actually a bold move and really could effect both Walgreens and Walmart. It could also effect the Kroger chain and Kmart etc,
Walmart has power with the manufacturers so I don’t know if they will have a problem with Walmart giving cash back or not.

I didn’t think that RR’s were considered manufacturer’s coupons.
It seems to me that this is about the Catalina’s that print out for a specific item. Say, if I buy a Lipton rice side dish, I might get a catalina for a competitor’s similar product, like Uncle Ben’s rice, which is a manufacturer’s coupon, and that could be used at any store.
But to use Walgreen’s RR’s at another store? Really?
I have taken my RR from Wags and used them at Jewel grocery stores. No cash back, but amount taken off total purchase just like any other coupon. The RR say “Manufacturer coupon” on them and act just like any other coupon.
I’ve got a RR from toothpaste right here and it says “Colgate Palmolive” on it in the fine print area. Makes me figure it is a manufacturers coupon of some sort.

If you can find a manufacturer's coupon for $10 off a pack of gum, yes. The Walmart policy has several limitations. It's good, but they've put in limitations that will prevent people from doing something like taking in a thousand dollars worth of coupons and walking out with $5 worth of merchandise and $995 in cash.
Simply, they won't allow competitor "$2 off" coupons, but only coupons that offer a specific item for a specific price. If Walgreens has soap for $5.99 with a $2 off coupon, Walmart won't take it. If Walgreen's has a specific soap for $2.99, Walmart will take it. This prevents other stores from jacking up the price by $2 and then trying to move products with a $2 off coupon.
Coupons must have a scannable bar code, a valid remit address, expiration date and be for a specific item. Also no buy one get one free or double or triple value coupons.
I’m not shopping at walmart over it’s voluntarily falling into bed with the Obama’s. See something say something, as well...
Here is my test run.
Went to the front desk. Handed them the new policy. Said I was going to test it out. Be ready. Gave them the URL for the coupon policy on the policy so they could verify I didn’t make the whole thing up.
Of course no one in the story knew anything about it including the Assistant Manager.
For the test.
3.00 gain used on the cheapest gain sheets creates overage.
3.00 Purex used on trial size creates overage.
Register takes it.
I bought a gift card and a couple of other things..planned it out so I would pay less than two dollars after using register rewards.
Worked perfectly.
Then went to do the big one.
Bought Purex sheets and nothing else creating cash back situation.
Then comes the uproar . Everyone in a tizzy. Lots of people coming to the register. The lowest level supervisor was doing that black swivel neck thing saying you can never use coupons on trial size. I said, sometimes it will say excludes trial size or travel size but this does not. She wanted me to believe you can NEVER use it on a travel size no matter what the coupon says.
End result.
I got my cash back and they are going to check with headquarters about the new policy.
So the safest bet is to fly under the radar and put it on gift cards until this filters through the stores this week.

It is not a store coupon.

Yes, there are stores that will take them. Some have been off again on again off again.
For example, apparently some Jewel stores will take them but if you call and ask corporate they say no.
Some Publix stores were taking them.
But this corporate coupon policy is a salvo from Walmart.
I just wonder how the manufacturer’s are going to take this cash back thing.

So did they offer the gift card to you as an option, or is that what they do? What if the amount is a small amount like 63 cents? Do they still give you a gift card?
No, I bought a bunch of things that created overage and a a Walmart gift card- and planned it out so that I would pay something in cash plus register rewards.
This was a test of the new policy.
I suspect the cash back thing is going to get shut down once they see what kind of door they have opened.
I did get cash back on a transaction that just had one kind of item in it - but it was swirl of supervisors and the assistant manager who finally made the decision and then said she would investigate. Had I bought a giftcard in that transaction I am sure it would have gone through with no problem.
It will all shake out this week.
