Sue Nami Crowned Miss Gay Maryland 2009 By Dimitria !

(Photo: Andy Liu) After three nights and nine contestants vying for the title, Tatiyanna Voche, Miss Gay Maryland 2008, crowned Baltimore’s own Sue Nami Miss Gay Maryland 2009 on Monday, April 20. Both Sue Nami and first alternate Chi Chi Ray Colby will advance to compete in Miss Gay America.

Sue Nami sat down with Dimitria to talk about how it feels to win and what she most looks forward to in her title year.

Welcome Sue Nami! How does it feel to be Miss Gay Maryland?

It feels great! After 3 years of competing for Miss Gay Maryland America, I believe that I have been growing in my professionalism, personality and entertaining. It’s so overwhelming and exciting, as I look forward to serving the system and the community.

I’m so proud of you! Competing with you was such a pleasure. You were so helpful and friendly, not only to me, but to all the other contestants. What do you have to say about the competition?

Every single contestant brought a great package. They all worked so hard, and I want them to remember, as they prepare for next year, that anyone can win. Consistency is the key to success.

So true! What do you think the hardest part of being Miss Maryland will be?

I would say there isn’t a hardest part. It’s really all about following the rules and regulations of the system, and serving the community as best I can. I need all the help, support, and love from the community that I can get as I move forward.

Support and love are so important. Now that you’ve won Miss Gay Maryland, you’re off to compete for Miss Gay America. What do you have planned for that?

I’m taking all the judges critiques and making all the improvements I can to put together my package.

Do you have any big plans for your reign as Miss Gay Maryland?

I’d really like to introduce the America System to the newer members of the community, and encourage newer female impersonators to compete. Also, I would love to help raise money for local charities like the GLCCB.

Finally, what advice do you have for other girls who are preparing for the next round of pageants?

Never stop learning, and never give up. Always follow your dreams, and listen to the right people. Let them guide you in the right direction.

Hey, Doug—liked the latest song. Have you noticed, since he lost funding for the Cowboy Poetry Festival, Harry Reid always has a sour look on his face./s

Hmm.. why are they dressed like really ugly women if they are homosexual men. Shouldn’t this freakish contest go by a different name?

I can think of several names for it, all of which would get me a time-out.

She double-dates with Jenny Side.
