Lazamataz and GingisK HIT IT AT LAST!
The Gun Range | 3/19/2011 | Laz

Posted on 03/19/2011 8:21:56 PM PDT by Lazamataz

Well, at long last, GingisK and Lazamataz hit it!

Um, at the gun range.

Weather was clear and windless, the variety of firearms was truly something to behold, and the company was wonderful.

GingisK picked me up, and after picking up his illustrious and charming boys, and meeting his lovely and gracious wife (where we all supped on Pizza, one of them affectionally named 'Sam'), we then proceeded to a delightful range slightly east of Lanier Lake in Georgia.

I finally got a chance to break in my Glock 22, and discovered that after an initial period of reacquaintence with shooting (in other words, I was all over the paper), I finally started shooting more consistently with the Glock. I also showed Gingis and his sons the Ball and Dummy drill, in which you -- unbeknownst to the shooter -- either give them a pistol with a round chambered, or no round chambered. On the times when you attempt to fire on an empty battery, you end up seeing what sort of flinch or motion you would have done if there was a live round. For most people, they see they would have shot low. People tend to anticipate recoil by pushing down.

We also had a chance to fire a very poorly-sighted-in 9mm (make unknown, looked wonderful but shot like crap), an extremely easy to use .22 pistol with almost know felt recoild, a very nice 8mm Mauser rifle (boy did that shoot true), a Springfield 03 rifle, a Ruger Ranch rifle that seemed to be sighted extremely high, a M1A (what a dream machine that was), and one I felt an immediate connection to - an L1A1 that I seemed to fire so well that Gingis started remarking, "Looks like Laz is hittin' it.". LOL

GingisK brought his boys, who shot very expertly. Safety was maintained, much lead was cast downrange, political opinions were traded (and in most cases merely reinforced), and all-in-all, truly a wonderful day. It is something I would like to repeat. :)

Wow, that was great. Thank you very much. I sent that on to a few friends that are also interested. Aloha

I gunsmith for a living and have heard nothing but bad about it. The .22 mag is a very long case for it diameter and that tends to make it difficult to feed in a semi-auto. I’ve heard tales of woe about the PMR in that regards. Someone else may have some first hand info.

Mosins got muzzle flash, that’s for sure. I know that from being up close and personal with my Mosins :-)

Looks pretty tricked-out. The only thing missing is the e-ring pull on the safety. I don’t know what I would do if I ever needed to engage the safety on my Mosin. That sucker is awfully hard to pull!

Friend has a PSL (Romanian semi auto 7.62X54R).

There are two flashes on that. One from the muzzle, and one from the spark of the steel case hitting the ground.

He loves that gun, I hate it. But then he thinks my .454 Casull is “to much” and I think it makes a great rabbit gun.

Thank you for the info. That is what I was looking for, the truth, whether it be in favor or against. I know that in the video, it jammed a couple of times with different ammo. Maybe I will look into a nice revolver in 22 Mag. Any thoughts on a brand or model? The 30 round magazine is illegal here in Hawaii anyway.

Is that an ATI stock? I picked up a Hi-Point 9mm carbine as a fun gun, and am patiently awaiting the stock to come so that I can switch it out.

I’ve always been interested in the Mosin, and you can’t beat the price! I would definitely get a new stock for it.

Just turned on the computer for the first time this weekend ... and here is this spy report!

I had a great time, too! It was just wonderful finally getting to meet you in person. You are even more delightful in the flesh.

Freepers need to hang out more together.

We were so busy carrying weapons and ammo that we just plain forgot a camera. Would a table full of dirty weapons getting scrubbed do the trick?

By the way, Laz only has to clean one. I have at least a week's work of cleaning to do. (The 8mm tasted corrosive ammo, so it and the M1A got cleaned right away.)

The Mauser came from "Mitchell's Mousers". It is extremly beautiful and in absolute pristine condition, teak stock and all. It packs quite a punch.

I am danged partial to the Smith & Wesson. The .22 mags can be difficult to find though.
