I never really warmed to Turn of the Screw but Peter Grimes is my favorite Britten opera.
I sang in Peter Grimes and hated every minute of it. For me, Britten’s music is alternately boring and irritating - a painful excursion into the mind of a tormented homosexual.
Leonard Pinth-Garnell agrees.
My favorite Britten opera is “Billy Budd”.
Thanks for the ping!

LOL! :)
Bump for later...I’ll try just about anything once. :)
Thanks, I recorded it. But haven’t we already been screwed?
;-)
We have just begun to get screwed. Now it's going international....
Turn of the Screw is the only opera I have ever walked out of. My wife and I left at intermission in Richmond from the Virginia Opera production and were amazed to see the glowing review in the paper the next day, about 15 years ago.
On the other hand, she and I were thrilled by the Met broadcast Saturday of Lucia into the theaters. Wow. It made my heart race in three different parts. Outstanding entertainment and a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
