Matt Lauer will follow Meredith Vieira out the door at NBC’s “Today” show.
But not for a while, according to “Entertainment Tonight,” which reported the veteran show host had told his NBC bosses he’ll leave when his contract expires in December 2012.
NBC officials would say nothing for the record on Wednesday.
“There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it’s not our practice to comment on any of it,” said a Today spokeswoman. “Matt Lauer has a long-term contract with NBC News and Today.”

In July, I will air 22 episodes of MY tv series on NBC Sports. I am a FREEPER. My show is a conservative sportfishing show. I already have one episode that digs on B-HO. "FReep" spirit will be coming to NBC Sports (Versus) in July to Dec 2011. The world MUST be ending! (Teeheehee!)

The new management is cleaning house of the over priced under performing talent. Meredith Vieira isn’t half bad but Lauer is an airhead as far as I’m concerned. I could never understand how the networks paid so much money for so much mediocre talent. Well the new owners aren’t going to throw around money the way the old guys at ABC,CBS, and NBC did. They realize that you can get a very competent anchor for 1/10th of what they have been paying the likes of Vieira and Lauer. Look for more resignations in the not too distant future.
Loved how The Donald had Meredith speechless on Thursday morning. Wonder which two Liberals the network will hire to replace the two Liberals who are leaving.
