Children's Lemonade Stand Robbed (raising money for sick toddler)

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. -- Thirteen-year-old Chelsea Edwards says last weekend was the first time she ever tried her hand at a money-making venture.

The seventh-grader at Feagin Mill Middle School says it wasn't too long though before a couple showed up and soured her first business experience.

"The man bent down and seen the money jar, and he grabbed it," Edwards says, recalling what happened Saturday.

Edwards says a man and woman had approached the stand she was running with her two friends. She says they started asking questions about the price of lemonade.

That's when Edwards says the man reached down and snatched the jar of money she held between her legs.

"He flew in the car, and the girl was running after the car," Edwards says.

Houston County investigators say the couple is 20-year-old Gage Allen Turner and 21-year-old Amber Umbarger, both of Warner Robins.

Lt. John Holland says Turner got away in a white car that could be a 2010 Hyundai Accent.

He says Umbarger was left behind, and deputies quickly arrested her on the scene.

Edwards says the pair made off with $130, but what's worse, she says the money wasn't for her.

"I was going to raise money from Logan Varnadoe, my cousin," she says.

Logan is 2-years-old, developmentally disabled, and has a rare intestinal disorder.

His mother, April Varnadoe, says her son will be sent to the Cincinnati Children's Hospital this week for treatment.

She had been raising money to go with him, and her niece Chelsea was helping.

"My husband is having to take off work. We're going up there together with Logan, facing something very serious," Varnadoe says.

Since the robbery, Edwards says neighbors have pitched in to fill a new money jar, but says the experience has left a bitter taste.

"Why would he go up and rob three girls?" Edwards says.

Varnadoe has been collecting donations for the family's trip to Cincinnati through this site.

Anyone with information on the robbery can contact, Cpl. Slate Simons at (478) 542-2080 or (478) 542-2085.

at least it wasn’t the government this time.

also, this may be a terrible experience for the kids, but i’d bet that the national coverage brings donations in 1000 fold.

Unless she had a gun, there wouldn’t have been much the old lady could have done;)

I can’t wait till he goes to jail and has to explain to Buba what he did to get locked up. His butt will be sore for a month.

“What a couple of low life jerks. They should be horse whipped and then made to work for free until they pay back 3x’s what they stole.”

I’d go for 10x’s.... nevertheless they’ll have a lot of “fun” in the joint explaining their crimes...;)

Maybe God does work in mysterious ways....
If this low life hadn’t have come along, this little girl may have raised a couple hundred bucks. But with this publicity... thousands? tens of thousands? weird huh?

The guards should make sure that nobody needs to ask this little asswipe what he's in for.

Example converstation:
Guard: Hi Big Ed, this is Gage. He's in here because he robbed a little girl's lemonade stand of the money she was raising for her sick baby cousin. Yeah, this tough guy grabbed a little girl's money jar. Could you introduce him around to the other guys for me!

"90 percent of the time robberies and theft involve drug addicts"

Which is why I believe drug use should be legal;even though it is stupid.

Let the addicts destroy themselves cheaply, they will cause less trouble for the rest of us.

I’m not opposed to letting people destroy themselves, because, when it comes down to it, stupidity is the strongest force in the universe.

If that is all drug users did was destroy themselves, I couldn’t care less. However, most drug users take as many people down with them as they can on their road to destruction and that is untolerable.

Personally, I favour breaking the legs of those convicted of crimes while under the influence of drugs. Let their six month stay in the hospitable, as they heal, give them time to decide if that is really the road they want to go down.

Email:Drudge@drudgereport.com

Matt: Can you please expand on the story "Girls robbed of $150 at lemonade stand... "? Please add a 2nd link to the contribuitions to the little boy whom the girls were trying to help. It should look something like this:
