Wouldn’t it be nice if, just once, we learned from our mistakes? The beleaguered Bush administration has had a dreadful couple of years. Now, for the first time in recent memory, a silk purse has fallen into the president’s lap in the form of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s blundering stroll down “the road to Damascus,” also known as “Appeasement Avenue.” So what happens? Some influential administration supporters suggest turning it into the sow’s ear of all time: An indictment against Pelosi under the Logan Act. Here’s hoping President Bush not only turns a deaf ear to this advice but sees...

The visit to the Middle East, and to Syria in particular, by U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has provoked mixed reactions in the Arab world. Some wrote that Pelosi's visit challenged the foreign policy of the Bush administration, and that it had improved the U.S.'s image in the Arab and Muslim world. Others took a more skeptical approach, denying that the visit had made any major change. Still others were highly critical, and accused Pelosi of damaging the cause of democracy in Syria. BOSTON (AP) — A woman on a trans-Atlantic flight diverted to Boston for security concerns passed several notes to crew members, urinated on the cabin floor and made comments the crew believed were references to al-Qaida and the Sept. 11 attacks, according to an affidavit filed Thursday. Catherine C. Mayo, 59, of Braintree, Vt., was to appear in federal court later Thursday on a charge of interfering with a flight crew after disrupting United 923 as it flew from London to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. BOSTON --Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on Thursday activated the National Guard to help with security at Logan International Airport for the first time since the Sept. 11 terror attacks, after a terror plot targeting U.S.-bound flights was foiled in London. The security alert was raised at Logan and airports around the nation early Thursday after officials in Great Britain disrupted a plan to blow up airplanes from England to the United States. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said the plot appeared to be engineered by al-Qaida, the terrorist group that hijacked two planes from Logan on Sept. 11, 2001,...

This round of meetings follows in the wake of a lunch McCain had eight weeks ago with Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Cars prices have accelerated steadily for the last decade, thanks to an increasing reliance on technology and ever-more luxurious interiors. Even a compact car can easily cost more than $20,000. Shifting into reverse, French auto maker Renault decided in 1998 to design a modern car with state-of-the-art safety features costing only 5,000 euros [$6,000]. Renault's strategy was to create a car for people in emerging markets who have never owned an automobile -- some 80% of the world's population. But when the $6,000 Logan was unveiled last fall, it wowed West Europeans, too. This June, the much-in-demand Logan, which sells...

Logan Circle in Washington, DC and Logan Square in Chicago were named after him. As head of the Grand Army of the Republic, an early veterans organization, John Logan proclaimed that on May 30, 1868 Americans should honor the soldiers and sailors who died in the Civil War by decorating their graves with flowers. Five thousand people came to Arlington National Cemetery for the first Memorial Day ceremony. The principal speaker that...

Elections Director Dean Logan said the ballots, like 573 other ballots that were improperly rejected, were set aside because workers couldn't find voter signatures that corresponded to them.
