I suppose you could sneak over and write down the car’s VIN (if it’s where it should be on the dash) and run a CARFAX on it and see what the story is. You can’t bring a non-complying car into the US unless it’s for a car museum or it’s a race car, the EPA and Customs are really fanatical about that.

Does the car on the lot have license plates? My state does check autos and motorcycles for federal compliance before they’ll issue a plate. Wish they’d leave the bikes alone :(
