It’s “riff.” Not “rift.” The former is a guitar line. The latter is what goes on between RINOs and patriots.

Duane Allman never gets the credit he deserves, though Rolling Stone did name him #2 all time.
His solo on "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" from the Fillmore East album is astonishing.
Along that line, here is a solo from Derek Trucks, also of the Allman Brothers, from, again, "Liz Reed". You'll have to work to get this one as it's kinda buried on the site.
Click
here and after the page loads scroll down the list to "Allman Brothers Band" and click on "Jam Session".
Derek was feeling his oats that night.

Give a listen to Loan Me a Dime by Boz Scaggs on his second album. That’s Duane Allman on guitar (with the Muscle Shoals rhythm section). I believe in its 10th anniversary issue Rolling Stone called this song something like 12 minutes of swirling nitrous oxide. They weren’t kidding.

Yeah, I remember when the Wall came out..It was very good (not my personal favorite but good) and thought that it was their last collaboration as a band. Did not know these details though. It seems that when bands are huge and are with each other long enough, it always ends on a bad note (no pun intended) and the members end up despising each other. Then they get old and well...can’t bring it back
I’ll take a gander. Thanks for the details. Very interesting.

Ok you mentioned Steve Howe before me. My favorite solo and non-solo performer on guitar.
The list is a joke to any serious follower of guitar. There are scores of guitar solos that blow all of the list away. Of course once you really bring out the most amazing guitarists then it will become subjective being that there is so much that is so great.
Of course SoundChaser by Yes has some of the best solos on guitar, keyboards, bass and drums ALL built into a very cool tune!!!!!

I recently saw Patrick Moraz live and he did abit of this song. Absolutely amazing piano and keyboard performance. I actually got invited up onto stage but instead sent my best friend up being that he actually can play a piano/keyboard and I mostly play only guitar.
Also saw Yes live recently as well. They still play amazing solos live!
I have heard that Steve Howe may venture into country music soon. I look forward to that if he does. He has always had country music influences as well as rock and classical music influences in his style of play.

No, he’s a certified fruit, but the dude can play some serious guitar, and many other instruments.

2001 came out in 1968, Clockwork and Meddle came out in 71. I am not familiar with that lyric in Echoes. Interestingly, the final 23 mins of 2001 and the original 23 min version of Echoes supposedly synch together similar to the DSOTM/Wizard of Oz thing.

I'm sure that a little hand rolled number enhances the synch effect : )

Claptons second lead on Crossroads from Wheels of Fire is the single greatest guitar lead ever recorded...
This has got to be one of the top three or four best solos of ALL TIME!!! Absolutely AWESOME!!!
