But when you understood what made the Spartan men strong, it was the Spartan women. Because the Spartan women at the age of nine gave up their male sons. And their male sons went into a training that was called the Agoge and they stayed in that training for the next eleven to twelve years. And when they were finally qualified, when they were finally ready to join the ranks for the Spartan army, it was not their father who gave them their cloak and shield. It was their mother who gave them their shield. And when the Spartan mother gave that young Spartan warrior his shield, she gave him this basic commandment: Spartan, here is your shield. Come back bearing this shield or being borne upon it!
When Queen Gorgo, wife of King Leonidas, was questioned by the Persian emissary and she somewhat spoke out of turn to this Persian emissary, he tried to rebuke her. And she looked at him and said Persian, beware, for it is Spartan women who raise Spartan men.

“Because the Spartan women at the age of nine gave up their male sons.”
I kinda thought the mothers were older than nine. Did they get to keep their female sons?
(I couldn’t resist.)
He is a good Man and speaks the truth.
I already did, Colonel.
>>>>>..Spartan women at the age of nine gave up their male sons.
Children having children leads to perpetual abortion on demand and that is a one big reason why we have so many problems in our society today.
Well...bad sentence structure but I know what he means.
Spartan woman gave up their nine years old sons.
I pray that you are being sarcastic. The boys were age nine not the mothers. Even though the sentence was structured wrong the intent is clear.
So, by definition, who is absurd?
The MSM will not see it as “bad sentence structure”.
I’m not sure where he’s getting the age of nine; all the historical resources I have seen state the age of seven was the time when the boys were removed from their mothers’ care.
Moreover, has he considered Aristotle’s criticism?
“It is the standards of civilized men not of beasts that must be kept in mind, for it is good men not beasts who are capable of real courage. Those like the Spartans who concentrate on the one and ignore the other in their education turn men into machines and in devoting themselves to one single aspect of city’s life, end up making them inferior even in that.”
(As quoted in Forrest, W.G. (1968), A History of Sparta, 950192 B.C., New York: W. W. Norton & Co. p.53 )
Relax, pilgrim. I like West.
Just tell him to speak better and stay away from the Trumpster.
And what will the "MSM" say about it? Why should we care what they think or say? They didn't say flip when Obama spoke of 57 states or "corpse" men.
What matters is the essence of Col. West's statements. I applaud him.
what made the Spartan men strong?
Part of it was that if you were born runt, they threw you off a cliff.
Celebrate that.
Allen West has a measured speaking voice - he is slow to emotion and makes good on his effort to appeal to the minds of the audience. But I am moved when he rises to make a point and impressed with his quiet strength.
Do I really need to post this? Its not about us caring. Most folks on the right know all about the MSM and their proclivity to trash conservatives for minor infractions taken out of context.
OTOH. Lotsa folks take their rants at face value. Like Independent voters.
Yep, they were quick to engage in infanticide.
A visiting Athenian sampled a spoonful of Spartan standard mess black bean gruel and said, “I can see why you Spartans aren’t afraid to die.”
So turning your kids over to the government is a good idea?
Sounds like a totalitarian, statist notion to me.
Most of the country is already doing that. At age five.
Yeah, which is why a supposed conservative agreeing with that idea is disturbing.
