In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

ob·lo·quy [ob-luh-kwee] –noun, plural -quies.
1. censure, blame, or abusive language aimed at a person or thing, especially by numerous persons or by the general public.
2. discredit, disgrace, or bad repute resulting from public blame, abuse, or denunciation.

Example sentence:
"Not all writers or artists seek or ably perform a public role, and those who do risk obloquy and derision, even in free societies."
– Salman Rushdie, New York Times, April 20, 2011

Etymology:
1425–75; late Middle English. Obloquy means "harsh or critical statements about someone," and also "the condition of someone who lost the respect of other people" – both of which apply here. It's a word far more often written than spoken, with a formal tone that suits a serious issue. It comes from the Latin obloquy, "to speak against," from ob- "against" + loqui to "speak" (making it a relative of words like soliloquy and elocution).

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

The President vented his obloquy
On the Birthers (Don Trump) in a soliloquy
Now you see it, now you don’t
Show the Long Form, no I won’t
Slight accent? It’s Soros’ ventriloquy

No obloquy at this end towards the Sabres -- they gave it a great shot, and the prospects are good for the upcoming season(s)...

Good luck tonight vs. the Canucks!

Maybe among some true believers, but I think most of the more rational fans knew this wasn’t our year. I’m proud of what this team did. They finished the regular season with the highest point total since 1993.

Had Roloson not been spectacular, things could have been different. But the hockey gods give and the hockey gods take away.

i just finished a conversation with my lib jewish ofc friend who asked me to explain what the appeal of Trump was. It lead into a more generalized discussion of this being a racist inquiry and then to racism in general. Having these discussions with liberals is just EXHAUSTING! she cannot understand the inquiry into his grades, said that being president of Harvard Law Review is a huge deal [she went to Harvard law] and that they are so cutthroat and ridiculous that there’s no way he could have become president were he not brilliant. I said stop thinking that criticism of Obama is race-based. She said how can it not be when all the questions relate to his OTHER=ness. Honestly, people from multicultural urban areas really cannot but indict people from more homogenous backgrounds as racist, bc they truly believe that if you treat anyone remotely differently just based on their race, you are racist. I tried pointing out myriad other ways people are treated differently based on NONrace things, so how do you indict people for that? what label can you slap on that behavior?

allow me to say i feel bad for the pen fans and even for their eggshell capt. What a sad state of affairs for him, thinking he could quite possibly have made a difference if things had worked out differently.

speculation in the twitterverse yesterday on the Thrashers perhaps moving to winnipeg instead of the coyotes, and then who would move from the western conf over to the east? there was some mention of the preds moving to the southeast division of the East, but i think the consensus was that other franchises have already repeatedly requested to be moved to the East [red wings for one] and that would be more likely than Nashville moving over.

But it’s not “just” based on race, or even race-based at all. It is about the otherness, the foreignness of the Obama experience.

He is an other.

If he was a black (or half-black) person who grew up in Connecticut or Alabama or California I think he would have more normal reactions. And people would feel more that he was one of us.

But he did not. He grew up in foreign places and under the tutelage of avowed socialists and America-haters.

If one believes America is a creed, a culture, a set of ideas that binds people together despite external differences then it is only natural to not want some “other” to lead our nation. Especially when he wants to fundamentally change it.

If you are a multiculturalist, all things are equal and it should not matter if an Afghani goat herder or a baker’s son from Michigan is President.

Detroit would make sense, but I like having them in the west, so Stanley Cup finals can start at a decent hour.

Geographically, Columbus might make sense. They’re fairly new in the league, and not much history vs Western teams has developed, compared to say the Red Wings.

but here are some things she DID admit to:
Sarah Palin is very pretty and we have neither of us seen a BAD pic of her and who else can you say that about?
that the Trig stuff is just horrible and nasty and has no place in public discourse.
that it was unfair that W was painted as a buffoon and only someone who became pres bc of family connections.

what makes sense may have little impact as with most stuff it will probably come down to $, as in moving which team would be most financially advantageous to the NHL

They stretched out the first round so bad, I’d be happy to see a back-to-back or two. We had two times we had to wait three days for the next game. One can argue that the extra day of rest after the Pens won the 2OT game may have given the Lightning time to recoup and shake off the loss.

Columbus is probably a better idea, though they aren’t very Southeasty.
