HAVANA (Reuters) A Cuban cigar roller broke his own record on Tuesday by rolling the world's longest cigar, a monster smoke that stretched 268 feet 4 inches (81.8 metres), or most of the length of a football field.
Resting on tables, it sprawled through El Morro, an old Spanish fort overlooking Havana Bay, where Cuba is holding its annual International Tourism Fair.
The cigar, once it is officially accepted by Guinness World Records in London, will eclipse the previous record cigar of 148 feet 9 inches (45.38 metres), both rolled by Jose Castelar Cairo, better known as "Cueto.
Cueto, 67, has set the record four previous times and feels it is a matter of national pride for Cuba, producer of the world's finest cigars, to keep it.

The El Morro fort in Puerto Rico? Or are there two in existence?
How do you light that thing?
Ding Ding to the first, best Monica joke. Or Clinton.
How do you light that thing?
AND how do you keep it lit?
You’d need a vacuum cleaner to draw that thing.
Hell, how do you puff on it?
It only counts if he then smokes it in one sitting. ;-’)
At the end of the evening he thanked everyone for their support then promptly ran outside and polevaulted the Straits of Florida into Key West.
“producer of the world’s finest cigars”
years ago maybe, but that claim is quite dubious now-a-days.
as an avid cigar smoker since the 80’s, I would consider cuban cigars about to be ‘above average’ in quality, a far cry from where they were 20 years ago.
for a $20+ smoke I can find much better from other soils. the best seeds were smuggled out, and cultivated years ago, and the best cigar makers all but left cuba as well to form their own cigar estates, making some nice money, instead of getting paid $3 a day by Castro.
I have acquaintances at the smoke store who swear by cubans, they read all the aficionado magazines, know all the buzz words (like wine experts) but if you took off the rings and wrappers, and tossed down 6 cigars, they couldn’t identify a cuban from a mexican smoke. I’d wager a good Ashton or Fuente on it.
Oh, and I’m not prejudiced about it, I’m sad. While stationed in Germany in the 80’s I grew quite fond of the cubans. They just degenerated so much, I wouldn’t pay $5 bucks for one anymore.
When I go to Canada or the Caribbean now, I may buy one or two now just to if the Cubans have improved...nope.
Yo.
Are you SURE it’s a cigar?
