What if Romney Wins the GOP Nomination for President in 2012?

A visit to a therapist might be necessary to help conservatives work through their issues with the current frontrunner.

What if Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination for president in 2012?

A vast majority of conservatives become anxiety-ridden at the mere posing of this question, and many go ballistic at the thought of it actually happening.

So a quick visit to a therapist may be helpful.

Imagine yourself lying on a couch in the spring of 2012 with soothing music playing in the background. News breaks that former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has clinched the Republican nomination for president.

Your therapist, knowing that as a true conservative you worked against Romney by supporting (fill in the blank), asks in a soft comforting voice, “How does this news make you feel — angry, betrayed, confused?”

Intrade also pegs Obama’s re-election prospects at 58.6%, but your therapist says she will address those negative feelings in a future session.

This hour she wants you to work through the stress associated with accepting Romney as the GOP nominee.

So in an empathetic tone she asks you to think about the following questions:

Are you going to pick up your signs for Candidate X and go home?

Could you work for and support Romney’s campaign?

Will you vote for Romney in the 2012 election?

What if the polls show that Romney is running neck and neck with Obama?

Do you resent that squishy independent swing vote that is fueling Romney?

Finally, the therapy session is over and you leave her office with a huge headache. You realize you would have real problems supporting Romney as the nominee and even imagining these questions makes you angry.

Can you relate to this scenario?

If Romney is the candidate, Obama will be allowed to remain in office. I will vote for no socialist with either a D or an R next to their name. Romney is one of the biggest socialists in the republican party. Father of Obamacare, father of gay marriage, father of Bain — Red China purchasing 3 Com and US secrets, lover of baby murder, mandates and any other socialist idea he can spin with an R, duplicitous liar — lying when even the truth would serve him better, if he is the candidate, it’s third party or write-in for me. There is no way I will ever vote for that scum, I don’t care what the RINOs have to say. The one certain way for the republican party to guarantee Obama’s re-election, is to nominate Romney.

I don’t vote for tax and spend liberals regardless of the letter after their name.

We always have a choice. One thing I've been contemplating is that is just may be too late for us.

We/they call us “the sleeping giant”. What if we were sleeping at the wheel for too long?

McCarthy was correct....the commies WERE indeed infecting America.

It just may come to a 2nd Civil War. I don't see any other way out, or any other way to get our country back.....ESPECIALLY if romney would be our nominee.

Last election, I didn’t vote for mclame....I voted for Sarah. If Sarah was not on the ticket, I would have wrote in.

That was the plan.....until he introduced Sarah.

We got drunk and voted for McStain. I just cannot do that again. Lets find somebody else to nominate. I’d rather vote for Newt than Romney. Heck I’d rather vote for Trump than Newt. LOL!!

Yep. Jeb/Rubio, 2016.

Like Obama, Rubio is not natural born. Neither is Bobby Jindal.

I will not vote for Romney under any circumstances. At this point my first choice would be Palin but if she does not run I will probably vote for whomever she endorses.

Kindly note the “probably” in that last sentence. In the end I will wait and see what transpires. I won’t make a decision this soon.

I’ll be voting for Sarah Palin, Liberty, our Constitution and American Exceptionalism.

“What if Romney Wins the GOP Nomination for President in 2012?”

If that happens, I doubt that it matters. Obama will win and we will have completely lost our country.

“How does this news make you feel — angry, betrayed, confused?”

None of the above. It would make me feel worried and sad for the future of the nation. Guys like Romney cause cynicism, apathy, and bitterness among Americans who say, "There's not a dime's worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans." Guys like Romney make it hard to argue with that.

In short, guys like Romney would bring more long-term damage than short-term gain. Another Obama or whatever other liberal idiot gets the nomination, if elected, would be less horrible because people can unite in a voice behind opposition.

Opposition to equally lethal statism wrought by "Republicans" like Romney, on the other hand, would have been hacked at the knees because voters have no united banner, as in "Vote for the Republican if you're voting for limited government as a general principle," under which to oppose it. Romney would make America weaker than another Obama or equally idiotic liberal because he tramples the banner of limited government Republican philosophy, and Americans are BEGGING to be able to vote for it. A guy like Romney removes that opportunity and sabotages future unity.

My Ouija Board says Obama will not be on the ballot—It will be Hillary and Kerry running. I don’t know how, but I believe Obama will not be on the ticket in 2012.

They are counting on you to do just that!

Play your cards close to your chest, don't fall for baited traps like this.

Make it clear that you are holding out for a real American conservative candidate.

All the articles are written and all the polls taken as feelers, trying to learn what we are thinking and how far and in what direction we can be steered.

Don't give them diddly squat!

I just read the whole thing. Author Myra's whole argument basically boils down to: "We chould get behind Romney because Reagan said half a loaf is better than no loaf."

That's about the extent of it, except it's also coming from a false premise, that "feeling good about oneself" (or "teaching a lesson") could be the only reason a Republican or conservative who hates Obama would put their vote on someone other than Romney in a 2012 presidential election.

The author's mind is slammed shut to any other possibility of motive -- in her mind, any Republican or conservative who failed to vote for Romney vs Obama, was doing it solely for pure ego and vanity. The premise is so entirely flawed and faulty, that the whole discussion that follows is tainted. She is coming from a purely emotional place, whereas my decision to put my vote elsewhere if it came to a Romney vs Obama race, would take great courage but also comes from a place of sober, cold, and long analysis.

We still have those that would rather put King Obama in another term than Romney.

Live up to your screen name. Dump the emotionalism, and start thinking coldly and logically.

"King Obama" is loathed and hated by most Americans.

Your "king" Obama would likely face an much more increasingly conservative congress, if he was re-elected.

Romney is a statist who makes Americans think that Republicans stand for big government, and Americans are SICK of voting for big government. Romney would remove the alternative for voters and push the nation further to the left. An Obama re-elect would actually push the nation further to the right.

Stop emoting and START ANALYZING.

-- Hold my nose and pull the lever. --

I did that for McCain last time around, based on Palin, not on McCain.

I'm a throw-away the vote voter - if the candidate does not suit me, and I do not demand perfection, then I no-vote. I do so for Snowe and Collins regularly.

The GOP has to earn my vote. It is not entitled to it. I don't give a shit if the country goes marxist, I'll just move to a friendly country, like China.

Then Obama wins. Too many conservatives will be apathetic and will not vote, and that will give Obama another 4 years.

If a RINO is nominated, it's better to have Obama in office so at least those who do not know anything about politics will at least see the country being turned to sh!t by a democrat instead of a republican.

I don't even have a dilemma. If Romney were to be the Republican candidate and he needed my help and vote, he'd be in the process of being overwhelmed by a 45+ state landslide loss. So I can confidently say that I won't vote for Romney.

I would vote for all the conservatives on the ballot, however.
