(Reuters) - An Ohio man was executed on Tuesday morning after the Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal, officials said.
Daniel Lee Bedford, 63, was put to death by lethal injection Tuesday morning for a double homicide in Cincinnati in 1984, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. His defense attorneys had argued for clemency, citing dementia and mental retardation.
A federal judge had granted Bedford a stay of execution Monday, but this was lifted by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal.
Bedford was convicted of shooting to death his ex-girlfriend Gwen Toepfert and her boyfriend John Smith.
Bedford told the state parole board in March that he does not remember the slayings.

He gamed the system for 27 years??
I wonder if his victims would like to have had 27 more years?
That is RIDICULOUS! He should have been executed within 27 months at the most.
Ohio bump
No wonder! They kept him alive long enough to develop dementia.
His lead lawyer, to his staff:
“First, we’ll do all we can to keep him around for 27 years, while milking the system for every dime we can; then we’ll claim he’s too old, feeble and stir crazy to execute. That way, maybe we’ll get another decade or so in the dairy barn’s feed trough out of him.”
OHIO PINGS!
