A Michigan man who won $2 million in a state lottery game continues to collect food stamps 11 months after striking it rich.

And there's nothing the state can do about it, at least for now.

That’s OK...I’m mad, too. My husband works three jobs and we don’t take any of the welfare we qualify for. This is pathetic.

He complained because he lost half of it to taxes....

All hope is lost.

Sorry but I have to say he has a point. So he wins 2 mil and the government takes half! Who’s being unreasonable here?

he worked so hard for the money.

Meanwhile anyone on SS gets a job for $12,000 a year will get their benefits slashed.

The millionaire for complaining about having to support his own worthless freeloading.

Government sponsored gambling is a disgrace, and evidence of a nation in serious decline.

How coud he quailfy for food stamps if he has money

I don’t know...The guy just dumped a million into the tax coffers...He’ll never get that back in the food stamps he’s collecting...

That still doesn’t justify his leeching off the taxpayers. So he only made $1 million after taxes. That’s still more than most hard working Americans will earn in a lifetime.

You guys are missing the point and the big picture.

If someone wins or earns 2 million dollars WTF gives the government the right to take half? It’s his damn money. Food stamps are paid for by tax payers and he just dropped a cool million into the bucket.

He paid for his food stamps for the next hundred years.
So good for him

Michigan counts lottery winnings as “liquid assets”, not income even though he still has to pay income tax on it. A head scratcher if ever there was one. So if you win the lottery tell the IRS agent, “It’s not income, it’s liquid assets” and see how far that will get you.

this man’s million will be gone in six months... spent on big screen tv’s and useless gadgets....

instead of being mad we should all focus on what truly makes us happy... and its not keeping up with the joneses

that being said..this is what you have in a society that demands social charity enforced by taxes... we all have the moral responsibility to help our fellow man but government mandated benevolence only results in corruption

“of course he defends it, its that entitlement mentality”

Wow, some of you are so brain washed it's hopeless. “Entitlement mentality” my ass.

It's the government that has the “Entitlement” syndrome. You hear it everyday from these tyrants that think cause oil companies or anyone else for that matter earns a lot of money by their own sweat and blood the Government is some how entitled to just help themselves to half the money.

This guy bought a lotto ticket and won. What the hell did the government do to be entitled to HIS MONEY.

Wake up. It is government that is out of control not the American people.
