Obama attempts to speak with the almost-extinct
Mid-Alantic accent, but fails to include the classic falling diphthongs ("get in the cah" as opposed to "get in the car", "nothing to feah but feah itself") and the general softening of consonants. In other words, an affection, and a poor one at that.

To me Obama sounds like he has a midwestern accent, which I am very used to. Not a lot of twang or slang. Fairly straight pronounciation.

Depending on his audience, and whether it is a political speech, 0bama often sounds like Martin Luther King giving a stemwinder. Had to listen to MLK to pick it up.
