Representative Dana Rohrabacher, Republican of California, needs to hit the science books, forestry experts suggest.
They reached that conclusion after hearing Mr. Rohrabacher declare during a Congressional hearing on Wednesday that clear-cutting the world’s rain forests might eliminate the production of greenhouse gases responsible for climate change.

Now that’s reality.
Actually, cutting old-growth forests (which are way past their prime days of carbon sequestration), storing the product of such cuttings in long-term form (e.g., houses, furniture, paper), and replacing the old-grownth with new plantings has long been one strategy of reducing greenhouse gases. New growth forest, unlike old growth, sucks up atmospheric carbon dioxide like crazy.

THAT would actually turn those steaming malarial hell-holes into the paradisial places you see in Hollywood fare. I mean, it just breaks my heart to picture all of those little Ferngully fairies and Navi and what not dying of malaria and denge and all of the other grief common to rain forests...
