What Book to Read Next? (VANITY)

Posted on 06/05/2011 9:32:48 AM PDT by camerongood210

Hello fellow FReepers. I hope everyone is having a great Sunday. I am writing today because I would like your advice. I finished Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged earlier in the week and will finish George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four today but I don't know what book to read next. Any suggestions?

“The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand
“The River War” by Winston Churchill, which has a great description, from Churchill’s point of view, of the effects of Islam.

Victor Hugo’s Les Miserables, unabridged edition ... Ayn Rand’s favorite

Have you read Matthew Bracken’s “Enemies” Trilogy (Matt is Freeper Travis McGee).

Also good, but long is Unintended Consequences.

I followed up “Shrugged” with Ayn Rand’s “Return of the Primitive”.

Eye opening.

I have Atlas now and can’t get past page 88. Boring, to say the least. I really tried to enjoy it, but just can’t. Railroad this, railroad that, railroad, railroad, railroad. Who cares. Get on with the bleepin’ story.

Well, if you're reading dystopias, you might try Huxley's Brave New World, and Raspail's Camp of the Saints.

Buss’s unabridged translation of the Count of Monte Cristo - 1400 pages of page turning reading pleasure. One of the best books I’ve ever read. Steer clear of any “abridged” editions.

Philip K. Dick’s “Valis.” An interesting change of pace after Rand and Orwell - reality and human condition from another point of view.
