SOUTH CHARLESTON -- National Fishing and Boating Week runs from June 4 -12 and as part of it, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is offering its 21st annual Free Fishing Weekend.
The weekend is June 11-12 and allows both state residents and out-of-state residents to fish in West Virginia without a license.
“It is a great opportunity to remind people of the fun of fishing, especially with family and friends. If you already have a license, take someone fishing. It may be your children, spouse, or co-worker and introduce them to a lifetime of outdoor enjoyment,” said DNR Frank Jezioro.
The DNR is holding two large events as a part of the weekend. The events are the Bowden Fishing Derby at the state fish hatchery in Randolph County and a fishing derby at Little Beaver State Park, in Raleigh County. At both events, children can get basic lessons in fishing.
There are a number of other fishing events going on around the state, as part of the free weekend. Officials suggest that you contact your nearest DNR office for more information.

....everytime I go out fishing it costs at least $40-50 to start....and can go much higher....
of course it is on my boat and with the price of gas it gets a bit pricey.
NY Salt water once again require no license...(that is another story)...

Fishing’s hella expensive now. On the Rockies, middle aged and older men with government incomes are spending hundreds each on a single trip, and they are from nearby cities. They know that we’re in a recovery. [Little irony and dry humor there.]
beautiful country you have there Morgana....nice and peaceful...no gas required...
If I travel to my deer camp upstate NY there are bucolic spots like that...but that requires gas too...to get up there...I havent fish fresh water in 15-20 years but always enjoy it when I do.
No....I love what I do....trailer my 20 footer down to Long Island Sound....some pretty scenes there of a totally different kind....and lots of fish most of the time....
