Yeah, that’s a pretty average intersection, and pretty average behavior for it. Bicycles have been doing that for a long time, especially from about the time bicycle messengers figured out they could be paid more the more they delivered in a day, and it affected the rest of the bicyclists, if they hadn’t figured this out on their own. Pedestrians cross whenever, wherever, forever. And though most of the time the lanes are painted on the street, expecting other cars to stay in them or even signal when changing them is expecting too much, especially with all the double parking and even triple parking, combined with taxi cabs hustling a living, that’s been long part of life here. I’m glad this is where I learned how to drive, because otherwise it would be really off-putting trying to get used to this.
When I am in NYC the bikers really hack me off. They are pretty reckless.

Ha. The other day a woman driving an SUV almost ran me down when turning left. I lost it and screamed bloody murder. She just calmly looked at me and didn’t say a word- probably thought I was a lunatic. The bikes are really getting much worse with the weaving between cars and passing on the left. I have a feeling I’m gonna start seeing a lot more ghost bikes.
They should pay a bounty on bicyclists.
