I hear that Tiger Woods loves Perkins.

Well, the waitresses at least.

The razzleberry pie is also yummy.

I always enjoyed the Eggs Benedict breakfast special.

Sometimes I had it for dinner.

If the ones in my area are any indication, he should try between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM Thursday through Sunday.

I wonder if that means that I won’t be able to get my delicious - and bad for me - Marie Calendar frozen Chicken Pot Pie’s anymore. I guess the next time Target or Stop-N-Shop have a sale on them, I should fill my freezer.

As for Perkins - the first one I knew of - more than 30 years ago, in Burlington County, New Jersey - was very good and had waiting lines for customers on Sunday mornings. Haven’t been there in more than 20 years. The second one I ran across, in Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania - just over the “Delaware Gap” from New Jersey - was fairly good many years ago, but had gone down hill by my last visit.

I think Perkins in New Jersey has been hit competitively from both directions, by big increases in the number of - the Friendly’s chain on the inexpensive end and the TGIFridays, Applebees and the like for a little more money. I don’t know if MC has restaurant locations here in the northeast. Friends in S.California used to mention MC restaurants, but never do anymore.

Our Marie Callender’s closed a few years ago despite a great location on mall property right next to Olive Garden and Red Lobster. I was not too impressed with the food, but loved the pies. They were a life saver when it was somebody’s birthday at the office or I needed to bring a dessert at the last minute.

Peanut butter pie....yum. But they discontinued it years ago. ;(. Haven’t been there since.

I quit patronizing Perkins after one time to many of poor service.

I agree their restaurant food was terrible. They should have just stuck with their pies. We are here in southern Utah in the middle of nowhere and probably at least 100 miles from any decent restaurant let alone MC.

But their frozen pies in the local grocery store and their frozen pie crusts are superb. I am a pretty good cook but could not do better than that fabulous frozen Razzleberry pie.

I hope we don’t lose that division. Aren’t recessions wonderful?

Our local Marie Callender’s (three of them, I think) closed yesterday without notice. According to the news last night, employees who were there were gathered at 7 am and told the restaurants were closing for good and they should go home.

We visited the one on Northern Avenue last Friday night and the food was good. But the place wasn’t busy (on a Friday night!). The building is a nice one but it’s not a prime location any more. I bet it will be empty for a long time.

So we were one of the last people to visit that restaurant in Phoenix. Sad. Thanks for nothing, 0bama.

Competition has something to do with it.

For me (among the national table service chains):

For breakfast, IHOP. For breakfast, lunch and to a lesser extent dinner: Mimi’s Cafe.

You can thank Obama and his administration/shadow government.

Perkins is a rip off. They charge way to much and send you away hungry. Applebees is so much better.

I don't understand this. Wasserman and Obama say the economy has turned around.

This is sad, my parents took us to Marie Calleder’s in Utah all the time when we lived there in 1979-81.

Interesting story about the Perkin’s near my house. It’s on an exit just off of I-75 and has a big sign and flagpole. The sign and flag pole are original, but the building is the third one built on the site. Both previous Perkins buildings caught fire and burned down within a few years of each other. So far, so good, for the third building.

<The 3 western Washington Marie Calendar’s restaurants closed their doors yesterday. Believe it or not, customers still inside told to leave. In one case a birthday party for 65 people was going on.

Damn. I know the serfs are usually the last to know what’s going on, but you’d think that corporate would at least let people finish their meal.

I lived in Seattle and used to pass a Marie Calendar’s everyday on the bus. I always wanted to eat there (mostly because I’d heard of the frozen food. I never knew anyone who ate there), but never did. I think there was a Perkins up in Shoreline. Never ate there either, but loved the thought of all those pies.
