America has lost its way. My hometown was named for the Society of the Cincinnati. In ancient Rome, citizen-general Cincinnatus put down his plow to save his nation. When the battle was won, he declined a crown and returned to his farm. His self-restraint in the face of overwhelming temptation bequeathed to Rome several centuries of limited, republican government.
George Washington exhibited similar virtue after our independence. He too could have been king, but his self-denial enabled the rule of law to triumph over the rule of men. Our revolution was largely fought to settle the timeless question of whether government is answerable to the law protecting the rights of its constituents - or - are the people subject to government with a malleable Constitution bending to political pleasure.
America once enjoyed a constitutional republic where property rights were sacrosanct, contracts were conscientiously enforced and markets prevailed. Secure property rights channeled our energies into productive enterprise via the profit motive. An impartial application of the law encouraged market development which enhanced specialization and America's hallmark: an innovative spirit propelling higher living standards for all.
Freedom and prosperity are inexorably linked. Government constrained by law and limited by checks and balances, between both branches and levels of government, birthed an economic juggernaut. Yet, another Roman general has indirectly put a more pronounced stamp on our economy.

I'll say what I said the last time someone said something eerily similar: you could always copy your own source code.

It’s basic HTML.
Here’s the rub. If you do not use any HTML tags, the FR posting software puts them in for you. But if it detects as much as a single tag, then you must manually code the whole post.
I am purposely going to avoid any use of tags in this post, and the links which I’m going to give you (which show you basic HTML) will appear “hot” (clickable) without me doing anything.

Now, if I had used any HTML code, such as quoting you in italics, or emphasized with bold face, then I would have had to code those links with HTML. This is why you will sometimes see FReepers use *emphasis* marks to highlight a ~portion~ of their text. They don’t want to go to the trouble of coding the whole post, so they use a device like *, ~, #, + instead.

Place your cursor over nothing in particular, over some white space, and right click.
One of the last two choices in the little box that appears when you do this says something like “View page source.”
Select that and the source code for the page, complete with all the HTML will appear.

BTW, I wasn’t kidding about posting everything. I’m going to take you at your word that your motives are pure, but that publisher with the vaunted reputation you keep harping about has 17 cookies and 15 separate spyware devices that are planted on each computer that clicks on the links you post.
FReepers deserve better than to have that crap surreptitiously deposited on their systems, just because they trusted the folks who post here on FreeRepublic.
I have often wondered if I click on a link here, at FR, what is to say - "it is safe"?
I think if anyone posts something here that causes an 'intrusion' or virus to those members who click it - THEY SHOULD BE BANNED and their internet number never be allowed to post here again. (Just MHO)
Salamander has been our “canary in the coal mine” on this one. She has both Abine and Ghostery detection software on her system.
Even with that, a couple of times a week, she’s got to do a thorough clean out of the bugs.
If you worry about this kind of stuff, then the “Bloggers” section is definitely NOT the place to be. Case in point. Who would suspect an outfit like Forbes would stick you with 15 trackers from just trying to read an article?
I’ve been cleaning my cache two to three times a day and I’ve ~STILL~ got alarms going off.
Will plop the biblical refutation of secular welfare up today. Will start there since it has the gospel in it and that must come first.
Now just wait until some other diehards try to run me off the page for posting the same article twice or some other infraction.
And you must understand, the week a new article is posted on Forbes it will be an excerpt and link. Otherwise, you are asking me to compete against my publisher which I’m not going to do. If people don’t like it - don’t click.
But an article will be posted in full momentarily.
