No. There is an essence that makes you “you”. It is housed in a body. You can deny it while being living proof of it which simply makes you stupid.

Factually and logically wrong sir.
If rights come from man then rights do not in fact exist as they then mean nothing.

You have certainly negated your position.

The first segment of the Dying Earth (called the Dying Earth) was one of the first things Vance wrote while he was a merchant marine in the Pacific. It reads somewhat differently than the rest of the series, being a series of shorter stories that deal with disparate characters, the Lord Dunsany and Clark Ashton Smith influences are perhaps stronger. I would recommend sticking it out to the second segment, “the Eyes of the Overworld”, where Cugel the Clever is introduced, if the first part doesn’t grab you. And yes, Gary Gygax(who I also am a big fan of) was a huge Vance fan, they became friends, Vance actually used the name “Gygax” in the Alastor series, I believe.

Vance’s big swipe at socialism is Wyst:Alastor 1716, but it is speckled throughout his work.

Please understand that to a non-Christian the fact that it's Jesus Christ being tortured isn't particularly relevant.
Beliefs can turn around as long as one is still alive; heck, even miracles can happen. Suicide/euthanasia is never a positive answer to suffering. Christ (no matter who people think He was) didn't cop out on the Cross.

If there is no higher authority than man then man can make his own rules.

Man does make his own rules.

I don’t have to respect you nor do I have to care about your welfare.

Correct. You don't.

You are nothing to me. There is no god to say differently.

While I don't believe in God(s), I don't affirmatively deny their existence. There may well be a deity or deities...I simply don't see any reason to think so at this time.

As long as I don’t get caught I can treat you anyway that I please including cheating and stealing from you.

Again, this is rather obviously the case.

If I don’t get caught there is no price to pay.

Another truism.

You don’t matter a whit, only what I think is right matters.

Incorrect, since there are real world consequences to your actions.

I like you too :-)

Show me falsifiable, scientifically verifiable evidence of this "soul" and we can talk. Otherwise, you might as well argue how many angels can dance on the head of a pin...it's just as productive.

You’ve got to admit, the way he went about it was pretty selfish. He could have at least arranged for a cleaning service to stand by.

Wrong. Consequences are for those who get caught. I don't have to have compassion for anything or anyone. Only God says I do. You are a shining example of why society is failing. You believe in nothing but yourself and you are flawed.

You can deny the obvious but you can’t refute it.

"You’ve got to admit, the way he went about it was pretty selfish."

Suicide, excluding "Suicide missions" of strategic importance in war, is selfish by default.

"He could have at least arranged for a cleaning service to stand by."

Yes. While Thompson had "Balls of Steel" performing the allege suicide, he would have acquired a "Heart of Gold" if the cleaning service was paid in full and on standby.

Don't worry. Nobody is gonna go Jihad on your butt.

Good heavens (er...so to speak). I would certainly hope not.

Consider this, if someone truly believes in Jesus, Salvation, Heaven and Hell, the most evil thing they could do is to resist sharing the Gospel with you. Think about it. How much would they have to hate you in order to not warn you?

In previous conversations of this sort, I've had many people tell me (essentially) "Oh, yeah? Well, you're going to Hell to be tortured for all eternity! What do you think of that?"

Heck, that's already happened on this thread.

Sometimes, though (not nearly as often as the former) someone seems to genuinely care about the status of my soul, and makes a sincere attempt at conversion. It normally ends with them saying that they're going to pray for me, and with me thanking them for their good wishes.

And on that note, I'm going to have to call it. As fun as this is, I'd like to actually accomplish something today. I have Father's Day presents to buy, and paperwork to go through to purchase a silencer.

(In terms of federal background checks and forms to fill out, it's similar to buying a machine gun. Whee.)

Yup.
That’s what the right to die types are backing, though they don’t see it or won’t admit it.

People, including Christians, are flawed due to our fallen state. I try to share the Gospel in a manner which doesn't insult. Sometimes I succeed.

If you haven't read it, check out C.S. Lewis' "Mere Christianity" and Lee Strobel's "The Case for Christ."

You might be surprised.

What he believes is that he has no value. He's free to life as long as the majority also believes he has value. Should that change they have the POWER to deny him ANY "rights". He only has rights that a majority grant him.

In that scenario any group larger than one person has the right to take anything that he has including his life.

Eactly right.
As I’ve already said three times: If rights come from man, then they can be taken away by same and thus have no meaning.
Thus there are no rights, which would include the push for ‘right to die’ as that would also be nonexistent as well if rights came from man.

So, in the end, pushing for a ‘right to die’ is pointless.
Thus, the position that a ‘right to die’ exists is negated.

Sounds like the Borg. The collective is the only authority and right and wrong are subjective and whatever the collective says it is. He’ll believe that right up until he’s a victim of a collective.

I think a quick review of Romans Chapter 1 is in order.

v18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.....

v 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

As I've stated earlier, rights are a human invention.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong troll. Rights come from GOD. Man RECOGNIZES rights, he doesn't create them, if man created rights that means man could eliminate them.

This right has not existed in most societies throughout history.

No, it wasn't RECOGNIZED.

You sound exactly like the leftists who think that rights are privileges bestowed by government, you are a TROLL.
