NASHVILLE Country legend Glen Campbell has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, his wife told People magazine Wednesday.
Though the "Rhinestone Cowboy" singer has suffered from minor short-term memory loss for several years, the Alzheimer's diagnosis came about six months ago, wife Kim Campbell said.
The 75-year-old has decided to give a set of farewell live performances this fall and his family wanted to go public with the news of his disease so the public would be aware of his condition.
"Glen is still an awesome guitar player and singer," his wife told People. "But if he flubs a lyric or gets confused on stage, I wouldn't want people to think, 'What's the matter with him? Is he drunk?'"
Campbell, a 2005 inductee to the Country Music Hall of Fame, has recorded more than 50 albums over the past 50 years, though his biggest hits came in the 1960's and 1970's.
"I still love making music," he said. "And I still love performing for my fans."

” Studio musicians have to be very able ...”
He was able all right. Producers used to put a chart of the song in front of him before recording and he’d give it a blank look and say “can ya’ hum it?”. He didn’t need to hear much to get in the groove and go.
Your posts leads me to believe you witnessed this first hand. You lucky rascal, you.
My Dad had ALZ and my Mothers prayer was that she would live long enough to take care of him. Dad died in 2006 and my Mother died 2009 so God honored her request and she was always thankful!
I lost my mother to this disease and her brother, my favorite uncle, also to this disease and an aunt by marriage as well. Each of those was a terrible experience to watch these strong, smart people give way to this horrible disease. But when it is a spouse, it is very different..this time it is your life partner, your confidant, lover, wife or husband, mother or father to your children, and the comparison, I have found, is so different. With a parent or other relative, your foundation, your security is not assaulted as it is with a spouse..
But no matter, it is a terrible terrible disease. The only one worse would be ALS..in that one everything else fails and the brain is the last light to go out on that Christmas Tree. That is almost worse...

No. I was a kid when that happened. That’s from people who were there though. If you hit sites like gearslutz.com you can get a hell of a lot of history of bigtime, pro sessions (interspersed among talk of audio gear). It’s the damnedest thing, someone will post a question about, say a particular Mowtown session, and the guy who recorded it all those years ago may pop in and answer.
