Sold Out After Crisis (37 item food guide)

I received an ad in my mailbox from townhall.com pushing this book, Sold Out After Crisis by Damian Campbell. I tried looking for reviews on it and all I find are phony review sites with links back to a store trying to sell the book. Has anyone ever heard of this guy? Sounds like junk to me and I wouldn't even bother with it if it hadn't been pushed at me by a conservative site. Is it any good?

I took a look at it and it looks like the same information you can get through any prepper web-site for free. Nothing on that list of contents that I haven’t seen covered on those sites.

I’ve written a lot about food storage on my blog, and the information there is free. OTOH, there’s a lot to be said for specific information accumulated and organized in one place, such as a book.

FWIW, what I would put on that list is:

wheat (both hard and soft)
rice (white and brown, although brown has a shorter shelf life)
salt
varieties of beans
sugar
honey
spices, herbs and seasonings (according to preferences)
dried milk
peanut butter
coffee
alcohol (the drinking kind. Is it a food? No, but it will become highly desirable and barterable.)
canned goods (soups, pastas, veggies, fruit, beans, etc.)
oats
freeze-dried entrees (very useful in evacuations and emergencies in which cooking is difficult)
yeast
baking powder, baking soda
oil, shortening (Shortening, if stored in a glass or metal container has a much longer shelf life than oil.)
dried pasta

Off the top of my head, those are the biggies. Freeze-dried and dehydrated produce are also worth adding to the list, according to favorite recipes and personal preferences.

Hope this helps. I used to teach a webinar called, “The Top Ten Foods to Store,” and I need to schedule some in the next couple of months. If you’re interested, my blog is thesurvivalmom.com, and that’s where I post my webinar schedule.

Thanks, I bookmarked your site. I’ve tried stockpiling alcohol but I always end up drinking it :-)

Miz ChocChip, you are an asset to FR. Please do not stop with your wisdom; your efforts cure a lot of folks of their ignorance, mine included.

If you ever get the chance watch the movie Schindler's List. He gives the people bottles of Vodka to use as barter.

Yeah...I was thinking that we need to sock a few more drams of the potent potables away.

awesome. this is very helpful information. time to go to Costco or Winco and stock up. dried banana chips are good, loaded with potasium. store food in tupperware.
I am also going to fill up my gas cans.
you know, with all the ads offering to buy gold these days, I think it is best to hold on to all your jewelry, broken or not. IF a disaster hits, and we can’ get gas, or banks can’t open...you could probably trade a gold ring for anything. I’d like to be the person in my neighborhood who will take your gold for some of my rice and beans :)

The ChocChip list is great. I can’t imagine Damian Campbell’s list could contain much more than this to make it worth forty bucks! $40 for a list of 37 items! I’ll bet the Cookie can give us a list twice as big for half the price!! Thank you Cookie!!

OK - has anyone in this group really read the book OR are you just guessing at the content???? I would like to hear from someone that actually read the material!
