Huge gator snatches dog and eats it in front of its owner
An 8-foot-10-inch alligator attacked and killed a weimariner dog in suburban Broward County earlier this month as the dog's owner watched in horror, wildlife officials said.
On June 9, Beatrisz Duque was walking her two dogs, one with a leash and the other without, near a lake on Hiatus Road in Plantation.
Her weimariner walked down the canal bank and was snatched by the alligator, an incident report stated. The alligator resurfaced several times with the dead dog in its mouth, the report said.
Duque notified the police department who in turn contacted Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservationists.
When officials arrived, Duque was inside of her home grieving. Her daughter stayed outside to answer questions. Duque still couldn't talk about the incident Friday and cried when asked about what happened to her dog over the phone.
The trapper who arrived at the scene used a fishing pole and snatch hook to capture the alligator. It was later killed, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife.
Ping
The dog’s name was Bait.
Poor woman. May God bring her comfort and replace the last memory with all the good ones they shared.
Feel sorry for the woman and dog, but at least the dog didn’t suffer too much.
But she was near a Florida swamp and should have been aware of the possibility...
That thing would be wallets, a brief case and a couple of pairs of shoes.
I’d put his head on a fence post next to the water to warn the others.
When I read this story about an alligator eating a weiner dog, I can’t help but think of Huma Abedin and Anthony Weiner.
Just a bit larger than Alberta that we “borrowed” in ‘65 in northern Indiana and forever tagged me with the nickname, “Gatornapper”.......thanks to the Indianapolis Star newspaper.....AND Walter Cronkite/CBS, Huntley-Brinkley/NBC evening news......
I’d post copies of the newspaper articles, but then the “O” spies would know who I really am.......
Looks like she has a set of lips that could do a fine job if she wasn’t so busy doing Hillary.
Sure, that's great. But in addition...
Beatrisz Duque was walking her two dogs, one with a leash and the other without, near a lake on Hiatus Road in Plantation. Her weimariner walked down the canal bank and was snatched by the alligator,...May God also bring her some common sense so that in the future she doesn't allow her remaining dog to run loose on the bank of a canal filled with alligators. Geez, ya mean Florida has alligators in the canals? Who knew? :)
You're thinking of a Dachshund. This was a Weimaraner...
That’s the problem, people move down here and have no clue that Florida’s climate suits all kinds of critters they don’t have up North.
Giant NY alligators are eating graffiti artists now?
It still looks a bit like Anthony Weiner to me. :)
But I am saddened. It’s beautiful dog.
Any Florida swamp is far more sane and civilized than NYC.
NEVER walk your dog without a leash near a canal....you are just asking for something to happen.
NYC was built on a swamp. Some parts of the city like CoOp City [the residents made it a *swamp* the moment they moved in] in the Bronx were.
There was quicksand in the Times Square area. In 1904, the Hotel Darlington was being constructed on West 46th between 5th and 6th Avenues and it collapsed killing 25 workers because it was partially built on quicksand. The owner of the Hotel Patterson on the 47th St side of the block had quicksand trouble when building his hotel and had to go down 30 feet efore they hit bedrock.
I thought the only dogs Gators like to eat are Bulldogs.
Should have let them go extinct when we had the chance but NOOOO - the environazis stepped in instead. How many kids are going to die from these things before we get rid of them?
I like that show and Elizabeth is a lot of fun, but is that the only shirt the guy owns? LOL
I’d declare open season on alligators. Let people do what they will with them - I’m not aware that they serve any particularly useful function other than that of becoming wallets. Do they keep any other species in check (besides dogs that is?)
His shirt has its own FB page! LOL

That's wha I'm talkin' about.
My sister and bro-in-law have one and personally I think they're stupid dogs........theirs walks around with a look on its face as if it's saying "Huh?".....
From an interview w/ Try. Like a lot a captains/fishermen, he is superstitious: ‘On his signature striped polo shirt:
It is my lucky shirt, and I had about seven or eight of em and Im down to about three now. Im trying to find me some new ones, and the wife cant find none thats exactly the same. So, ah, I dont know what Im gonna do in the future. I need to find me some new ones and weve been looking, and they are hard to find exactly like that. But it is my lucky shirt. Thats why I catch all those big onesI always wear that shirt.’
[Sounds like a business opportunity here, folks!]
No one is forcing anyone else to live here, you can always get an apartment overlooking Central Park.
There is a legal question here. If the dog was illegally off the leash, should the gator have been prosecuted and then executed.
The are lots of precedents always used by insurers to defend clients that run over dogs. If the dog was running astray, it was in violation and the dog’s owner is liable, not the driver.
The owner is liable, not the gator. The gator was killed in vain.
I thought the gator was killed in Florida?
Were Rick Perry the owner, he’d have shot the gator/.
Anybody who allows their dog to walk within 20 feed of a lake or canal in Florida is an idiot. The dog doesn’t know any better. The gator is just doing what’s natural. You expect the pet owner to to be more intelligent than the dog or gator.
LOL
Don't forget sauce piquant, gumbo, and fried gator tail.
At least the dog didn’t suffer.
This is my backyard. The water levels are so low, the gators are swimming below the gates, right from the Everglades.
Duque still couldn’t talk about the incident Friday and “cried when asked about what happened to her dog over the phone.”
Those damn reporters called her and asked “what happened to your dog” DUH Ghouls. Of course she cried.
“At least the dog didnt suffer.”
Like heck. Seconds like that must have seemed an eternity of pain.
Mmmmmm.....
I have had gator before and it was pretty good.
“the other without”
Shouldn’t walk a dog off lead in dangerous areas.
A tragedy which was avoidable. Too bad, Weimaraners are great dogs. Alligators make great luggage. On the other hand, they also eat cottonmouths.
Saw a guy’s yellow lab eaten by a very large gator during duck season many years ago.
Something that I’ll never forget either. Oh, days later the owner sank the gator.
The ONLY thing alligators are good for are SHOES, BELTS, and LUGGAGE!
Why was the alligator killed for doing what alligators do? The woman had the dog off the leash knowing she lives in alligator country. It had to be horrific for the woman to watch her dog die, but she’s a moron, and the alligator and her innocent dog paid for her stupidity. Killing the alligator was double stupidity for whoever made that call.
Really? Where does "eaten by alligator" place on the list of causes of child deaths each year?
