Anonymous Declares War On The City Of Orlando
TechCrunch ^ | June 28,2011 | Erick Schonfeld

Posted on 06/28/2011 6:02:58 AM PDT by Bad~Rodeo

The hacktivist group Anonymous may be setting its sights on the city of Orlando, Florida next, if an anonymous press release which has landed in our inbox is to be believed (see bellow). The group is threatening to take down a different city-related website every day, starting with Orlando Florida Guide, which doesn’t even appear to be owned by the city of Orlando (it is registered to an organization called Utopia, administered by a man named Steven Ridenour). So any random website extolling the virtues of Orlando could be targeted.

The DDOS attacks are justified in the press release as retaliation for the repeated arrests of members of a non-profit group called Food Not Bombs, which feeds homeless people in a park without a permit. The leader of the group, Keith McHenry, was also recently arrested.

“This is a declaration of war,” writes Anonymous in its press release describing “Operation Orlando.” It warns the entire city that “Anonymous will now begin a massive campaign against you and your city web assets. Everyday we will launch a new DDoS attack on a different Target.” Its first target will be Orlando Florida Guide, which it threatens to take down between 10 AM and 6 PM tomorrow. No reason is given as to what the site or its owner did to incur the wrath of Anonymous, other than its local boosterism. It’s not even the City of Orlando‘s official website.

Anonymous Press Release – Operation Orlandop June 27, 2011

The City of Orlando has ignored our warnings, and our generous offer of a cease fire. On Wednesday last you not only arrested two more people for feeding but you arrested the worldwide President of Food Not Bombs Keith Mchenry. This is a declaration of war.

Henceforth there will

Wait. Didn’t a couple of “leaders” of this group just go to prison? didn’t they learn anything? I guess not.

It is stupid to arrest people for feeding the homeless “without a permit.” I don’t agree with hacking Orlando but it is wrong to arrest people who feed the homeless.

Who's bellowing, and why??

Unless, of course, the writer intended to use the word 'below'. 'Bellow' means to yell or cry out loudly, unless it refers to a fireplace bellow.

the homeless gather around Lake Eola near downtown, and feeding people there simply increases the public problems. These individuals need to be incentivized to go elsewhere for help. I have no problem with this ruling, given that resources are provided to assist these persons.

Don’t live in Orlando, but knowing the city is governed by that rat Buddy Dyer and a bunch of other demo-rats, I say to the butt wipes on the net, go for it!

Nothing I like more than good old red-on-red combat!

“I don’t agree with hacking Orlando but it is wrong to arrest people who feed the homeless.”

If only it were that simple. Some of the folks who feed the homeless do so without adhering to basic food safety practices. If the homeless person gets sick tax payers pay for their care.

They also tend to attract homeless people to areas with the food. The homeless people then defecate wherever they want, make a mess and bother other people. Is it fair to business owners to have these homeless people camped out on their doorstep?

If homeless people want a meal there are numerous organized charities they can go to. Nobody will go hungry.

Here in Tampa there are lots of homeless people doing the same thing. Many are young people refusing to work and instead living off others.

The homeless bother the tourists, thats why the demon-rats are getting involved.

Maybe the reference was to Saul Bellow?

In the first American Civil War, one side wore blue, the other gray. They marched in formation. They traveled in large groups. There was a definite chain of command.

In the second American Civil War, people will use flash mobs, DOS attacks, and coordinated anonymous campaigns against well-defined geographic locations.

I don't expect to see ordered battles like Antietam.
I don't expect to see (much) street fighting like Fallujah.
Orlando? Chicago? Philadelphia? I think I may already see the war.

Silly little liberal punks. It's your stupid nanny-statist ideology that forced people to have to get permits to begin with.

Santa Monica had a great "Feed the Po" project until the teeming masses of homeless swelled to the point that it became a public health hazardf what with all the sleeping in doorwells and urinating on the sidewalks - it looked like San Frnacisco!

There are reasons you do not feed that which should be feeding itself.

The area where the people are fed is around lake Eola. It used to be a dump. Drug deals, hookers, pimps, homeless, crime. About 15 years ago Glenda Hood the Mayor) (Also known as the Good Witch Glenda) cleaned up the place. There are now upscale restaurants, condo’s, nice homes and a good family environment.

The city has a place about 5 blocks west of the lake where there can be unlimited feeding of the homeless.

The group “Food Not Bombs” has an agenda. They are about as left wing as you can get.

Even though Mayor Dyer is usually not on the right side of an issue he is on this one.

Then I'm sure you wouldn't mind if some group set up a completely unregulated homeless feeding station in front of your house, or perhaps in a park where your children play.

They’re going after this website first because it’s low-hanging fruit: it’s a private website owned/run by an individual, so fewer concerns about real security to deal with and very little likelihood of an immediate, robust response by anti-crime units with sufficient experience in tracking hackers, and because, basically, they want to make an example by shooting the little gimp that no one really likes, but whom all feel a faint pity for, in precisely the same manner that the Nazis used to do to entire villages when they found out that a resistance cell was sheltering in that village: call everyone out to the village square, grab an old man or a bum (i.e., someone who isn’t going to be immediately defended en-masse), throw him to the ground, and kick the living tar out of him to show everyone else that they mean business - of course, if that resistance cell had actually killed a few Nazis, instead of kicking the old guy, they’d put a gun to the back of his head and blow his brains out.

That is what this group is up to: like every other liberal/progressive/leftist group, their inner Nazi is coming out.

Orlando doesn’t want the homeless people there to begin with. They don’t fit in with the muzak.

Arrest or remove the homeless and put them in tax paid shelters where the homeless refuse to go and let them defacate there. Have the do-gooders visit the homeless in the shelters, along with their sandwiches to eat. Provide already paid taxes towards shovel ready jobs of keeping the parks cleaned, by continuing to haul the homeless to the shelters if they return to the parks. Problem solved!

Exactly. It's not like they weren't given YEARS of warnings. This is now a publicity stunt for them.
