Charles is the "heir to the British throne" and the current Prince of Wales. Thus Diana got the title Princess of Wales.

Will (and Kate) are one step lower than Charles and Di. Will is the "heir apparent to the throne". After Queen Liz passes on, Charles will become King and Will will become "heir to the British throne". He will also get the title Prince of Wales (the title KING trumps all others)and Kate will become Catherine, Princess of Wales. If they have kids, their first born son will become "heir apparent to the throne". He will not be the Prince of Wales until King Charles passes on.

I met a gal who thought Diana was Princess of Wales because she came from Wales...Itried in vein to explain it all to her but she never did get it.

The reigning monarch is entitled to determine who gets what titles. The spouse of a member of the royal family does not necessarily have a title unless the monarch gives them one.

A duke/duchess is the highest rank after a prince/princess (after a monarch).

Ah, so what? Nice but a fifteen minute drive north for me is Ocean Ave and the boardwalk of Spring Lake NJ and on through Belmar. More beautiful, bikini-clad buns in two seconds that’d make the princess here look like a dog. God Bless American babes, hottest in the world!!

The style of Prince (or Princess) is given to the children and male line grandchildren of a monarch. Hence Charles, Anne, Andrew, Edward are "HRH Prince(or Princess) ____". One generation down, so are the children of Charles, Andrew - but not Anne.

On marriage the wife takes the title of the husband - hence Diana, Princess of Wales, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge. Wales, York, Cambridge being the titles of their spouses.

Where it gets complicated is second generation of past monarchs Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Prince Michael of Kent are both grandchildren of King George V, but only the eldest son inherits the titles of the father, so Edward DoK's wife is HRH Duchess of Kent, while as Michael has no actual title, his wife is merely HRH Princess Michael of Kent.

The title of Prince of Wales follows the oldest son of the monarch and Heir Apparent, so Charles retains it untl he becomes King, when William receives it. If however, Charles predeceases Elizabeth II, William becomes Heir Apparent but Prince of Wales.

(It's actually a little more complicated than that.)

Proverbs 11:22 "As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion."

We are supposed to be a group of Conservatives posting on a site claiming to be "America's exclusive site for God, Family, Country, Life & Liberty conservatives!"

If we act like a bunch of lowlife construction workers (I've been one so shame on me!)drooling and cat calling over every titillating photo that is posted, we are admitting that our moral compass is as skewed as the liberals that we oppose.

“As a guy, I don’t know much about fashion, but the waist of that dress MUST not be at her real waist”

As a guess, the ‘Fashionistas’ describe such a dress as having an ‘empire waistline’.

Thanks...I wondered why Prince Anne's daughter Zara was not a Princess yet Fergie's gals were (Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice)...so Anne's kids do not automatically have a title but the Queen can make them Lady's, Duchesses, Dukes? And does Scotland have their own titles, i.e. Barons and Baronesses?

I imagine if they change the rules of succession to make the first born of Will and Kate heir apparent regardless of sex things will get even more complicated.

Do any of these sub-Monarch titles come with money or jewels or property?

Gee, there's a piece of flesh we've never seen before! I don't get the big deal. Back in the day when women were covered from head to toe 24/7, I can see that this was a voyeuristic scandal. Today? I mean, really? As if you can't google a picture of her ass any time you want? Really? I don't get the fascination.

Thanks for clarifying (as well as can be done). I agree, it certainly does seem complicated.
