VALPARAISO, Ind. Police say an 11-year-old North Carolina boy was bitten on the hand by an alligator at a northern Indiana amusement park after a man invited nearby children to pet the 2-foot-long reptile.
The Post-Tribune of Merrillville reports the bite Ryan Strand of Concord, N.C, received to one his fingers Sunday wasn't serious.
But police are trying to track down the unidentified man who lifted the alligator from its enclosure at Zao (Zay-OH') Island in Valparaiso with a noose and told children they could pet it.
The boy's mother, Donna Strand, tells The Times of Munster she and others thought the man worked at the amusement park.
Police say the man fled the scene after the biting incident with a woman and four children and drove away in a pickup truck.

Choot ‘em, Elizabeth!
That’s one mean guy.
Reminds me of the line from animal house - you f’ed up - you trusted us.
Many times, kids are asked to write a paper about their summer. I bet this kid’s paper will be a real humdinger! Sort of makes a trip to the water park sound boring.
Alligator bite = probably Aeromonas infection.
Antibiotic time, big time!
Unbelievable, gators bite!
They say don’t sweat the petty stuff and don’t pet the sweaty stuff. Good rules to live by.
I suspect that just being in Indiana would make a gator testy!
My uncle lived next door to a guy in Southern Indiana who had two caymen in a pond in his backyard.
They were there several years ~ I think he wintered them over in his basement.
Eventually they disappeared ~ after eating mostly corn and chickens their whole lives.
A FReeper. ;-)
Dear Lord. This sounds like something right out of “The Pink Panther Strikes Again”.
That’s the problem with Gators...it’s so hard to tell the tame ones from the feral ones!
