OK, what’s a blow hole? I’ve heard og whales.
Blowhole is the name of a chick rock group that I manage!
I think it’s where there’s a beach-level cave with a hole on top. Waves crash into the cave and then blow out upwards from hole. The surf is pretty big in some places, so the resulting wind and spray updraft is quite strong. I don’t think a sane person would “frolic” around one of them, at least the ones I’ve seen.
You can google Nakalele Point blowhole for a picture.
You ever see the movie Fool’s Gold with Kate Hudson? If yes then Kate jumped into the blow-hole in that movie where the gold was...
Subterranean lava tube with a vent topside. Waves roll up the tube, hit the back wall and shoot up through the vent. Geyser-like effect.
My guess is we have one less Californicus Treehuggerii to frolic in the sylvan glens.
In Idaho blow holes are holes that can blow air out or suck it. My introduction was the guy my husband was working for demonstrating with an expensive Stetson hat. He put it over the outblowing air saying see- it won’t fall.
About that time the air started sucking in and the Stetson went with it. That was the end of the demonstration as well as the Stetson .
Remembering there is a huge amount of underground structure that carries over from Yellowstone Park which is riddled with underground caverns etc. Some always blow out, some always blow in and some are AC/DC. This was in southern Idaho.
