DAUGHTER FOUND A JOB!
self | July 14, 2011 | swampsniper

Posted on 07/14/2011 10:25:57 AM PDT by SWAMPSNIPER

Mary starts next week and my son in law has 2 interviews for jobs he is thoroughly qualified to do.

Things are ecstatically chaotic around here today, we were almost looking for a nice bridge to live under.

Congrats to her and to your whole family!! :)

It’s funny how a post from someone I’ll never know, about something good, more than makes up for all the crappy news I read about.

You got that right Sporke!

It is even better when you can share it with someone who has the same values and beliefs as you.

Congratulations to your daughter. I understand what you have been going through. My daughter graduated form University in December 2009. She sent out hundreds (yes, hundreds) of resumes with zero success. She got to the point she was filling out job applications for temp work at Halloween stores. She finally decided to get a certificate to teach English in a foreign country. She also took an immersion course in Japanese because Japan was the country she wanted to go to.

Even this wasn't easy because a lot of other college grads had decided to do the same thing. She finally got a position in January of this year, and left for her assignment in April. She is enjoying herself, but, this is not what she had imagined she would be doing.

She was ready to be out on her own, starting her life; but, instead she found herself in limbo (with a whole lot of other people). Things were a little tense at home at times, but, she seems to be enjoying her experience in Japan. (She is 5'8-1/2" and the expression on the kids' faces and the, more subtle, looks from adults has been amusing to her. One of the ways they teach small Japanese children English is thru songs which have motions attached to them. One had them jumping up, and Kerry could touch the ceiling when she did that. The kids were like OOOh, Ahhh. They were impressed.)

“”all my life finding work was just a matter of pounding the pavement for a day or two. I’m almost 69, never drew unemployment once””

DITTO! How times have changed! Reminds me of myself - moving to CA from NY State in 1957, not knowing a soul there and finding a job on my first day out at “Douglas Aircraft” in Santa Monica. That should tell you how “old” I am... After that I moved to Sacramento and walked from business to business in the downtown area and was hired at Bank of America immediately. From there it was a matter of changing jobs when OFFERED other jobs due to contacts at the bank. Never a problem finding work.

Yes, things have changed dramatically - especially since the bozo took office!!! Here we find ourselves - AGAIN - talking about how bad things are just like we did in the ‘70’s during the Carter years.

All I can say is I pity our kids and grandkids living in a country he has managed to “transform” to his liking!

My son just started a job at Nissan in Smyrna, TN the other day. This is by far the best job he has ever had.

I read this on nursing blogs too. However, here in SE Pa., there are many nursing jobs listed just in my small local paper-The Delco Times.

I was getting scared, all my life finding work was just a matter of pounding the pavement for a day or two.

I know the feeling. Hubby has been back to work 2 weeks now. Years of instrument experience and he fought for a job driving a dump truck. As a 60 yr old with a pace maker he feels great to have even gotten this job. My goal is to pay off all existing bills (not so much really) and stockpile as much as I can and hang on.

I think it's regional...

I work in the medical field...And around here you can get a job. Might not be the job you wanted, might not be the pay you wanted, and might be a long way from your home. But you can get a job.

Way back when..I was in school...Hospitals were recruiting us, left and right. Then about a year or two after I got hired...they were having lay-offs..and people were worried.

Of course with ObamaCare staring us down...no one knows what's going to happen.

My wife is a nurse, and yes, the shortage has abated probably for some of the reasons you stated. They still take in new nurses but experienced ones are appreciated as some of the new graduates have hardly given a shot.

Yes, I'm believing there is a glut of experienced workers in many fields and our youth is suffering. Two nephews who graduated college have not found gainful work yet either.

So much for the Stimulus.

She told me no way.

Exactly...major hospitals in New Hampshire are talking about HUNDREDS of layoffs...trouble with getting Medicaid funds from the state...
