Vanity--Looking for Speech Application for Ipad

Good morning. My wife just got an iPad and as I am using it, I think it would be a wonderful tool for an uncle who has had a stroke. He is unable to speak well, but his mind is clear and I can see in his eyes the frustration of not being able to get his point across.

Does anyone know of a decent text/icon to speech software product that we might be able to get.

If it works well, I am sure it will add a quality to his life that has been missing for a while.

I know vanities should be used with care, but I think there might be lots of people my age out here dealing with more disabled elderly relatives. I greatly appreciate any help with this.

I spend a couple of hours this morning doing just that. What I found were a bunch of apps designed for converting text to speech, but I am not sure his dexterity was good enough for the small text keys.

I guess the perfect app would be something that had icons for phrases, or really, really big icons for typing.

I figured there are a lot of folks on FR who are taking care of patients in similar condition and might have seen something along the way.

I appreciate your response. And I will keep searching. If there is not one today, someone will make one tomorrow. I should just download the developers kit and make one myself.

There’s a free one called “Verbally” - I’ve played with it - for free, it would get the job done.
