A few hours ago, my close friend Gene McDaniels passed away. He was working until the end. A songwriter, artist, producer and extraordinary person, Genes first major hit as a recording artist was A Hundred Pounds of Clay.

Nothing captures the feeling of the first decade of rock and roll quite like the sweeping string intro of “A Hundred Pounds of Clay”. RIP Mr. McDaniels, you will be fondly remembered.
I was just listening to his “Tower of Strength” on youtube the other day. One of my all time favorites.

Yes I like old time music. Tower of Strength had a really fine brass section too. This gentleman was the real deal.
